Unless Western New York goes through a economic boom which I don’t see happening population is actually leaving New York State. The new open air stadium will fine for our Buffalo Wings the 10th franchise in the CFL. I am sure some Bills fans will be bitter but overtime time heels and you go to what you have in town. It will be like the Buffalo Bandits NLL lacrosse rivalries with Toronto, Hamilton, Montreal and Ottawa.
 

Orchard Park location works well for the stadium because the land has no value if the stadium was in the downtown core you would risk losing the new stadium to land developers in the future. Nothing is ever happening in Orchard Park so when the new Bills stadium is 30 years old it will still be productive as a CFL stadium/concert venue. Just telling it like it is with our economics. The Buffalo Bills can win 7 Super Bowls with Josh Allen and it’s not stopping the shortcomings of Western New York economically plus factoring in so many cities want NFL franchises. If Western New York couldn’t afford a dome now it won’t be any better 30 years from now. Hope I am wrong but I am 56 years old so in 30 years it won’t affect me as a Bills fan enjoy the next 30 years it will be our last years in the NFL. But at the end of day so what the CFL is a good fun football league which is what sports are all about fun in my opinion. Go Bills! Let’s Go Buffalo

I have a serious question.  The new field is supposed to be grass. Fine. I get that you can heat it and have grow lights and all that to keep it alive.  When we get a storm like this, how are they supposed to clear the field and the stadium without destroying the field?  In the current stadium they can drive large equipment right onto the field.  With grass, which would be soaked by melting snow if the ground were heated, it would be far too soft to do that.  I realize other grass fields can get snow but they don't get typically 2-3'+ of snow in a single storm in Philly or Pittsburgh or Green Bay or Baltimore or Washington.  Cleveland could I guess, but nobody accused Cleveland's field of being good in the winter either.

European futbol leagues cancel matches over snow. Anything over 3” and it’s a toss-up whether they play.

They actually wanted to build the new stadium in Watertown, NY.  Lake Ontario is deeper, doesn’t freeze as quickly, the organization wanted to eek out every last drop of lake effect on this new stadium each winter,  But ultimately they had to keep it in Orchard Park.

Wasn't the new stadium supposed to have "wind confusion"? That could have had some impact on I-90

The reason why a dome? A dome wouldn’t have an effect canceling the Buffalo Bills game either way. Agreed. But with a dome with field turf you won’t need shovelers and two you can play the game with no fans. Grass field in a Buffalo open air stadium is one of the worst ideas ever for the Buffalo Bills. Look outside tomorrow Bills fans and ask yourself if natural grass is such good idea in Buffalo December and January weather over field turf ridiculous but what do I know? I have only lived in Buffalo my whole life of 56 years and counting. See War Memorial Stadium, UB Stadium completely got rid of there natural grass for field turf there season ends in November and Sahlen’s Field. Sahlen’s Field as the baseball season has started earlier and ending later and later is having issues with grass and canceling home Buffalo Bisons games in my opinion. Go Bills! Let’s Go Buffalo

KC is playing in life threatening cold. NFL doesn’t give a stevestojan. 
 

and this is from me, one of the biggest proponents for a dome this side of some clever analogy I can’t think of since I’m running on 4 hours of sleep over the last three nights combined.

a few small issues I have in the article….

 

1. NFL scheduling factors into things other stadium events planned.  Seattle, Baltimore, Kansas City, Dallas, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh all have neighboring football/ baseball stadiums.  Nashville, indy, others have football stadium near nhl/ nba arena.  These sites share parking.  Houston and other stadiums have regular annual events like stste football chsmpionships or other events/ festivals.

 

2.  Concerts don’t do tours dec-March other than some special planned events. Running stadium tours has staffing. Summer stadium tours will do northern locations may- sept then gradually work doen and do I-10 coordoor site in nov/ December. Some tours might do schedules to hit northern dome stadiums.

 

3. putting a dome on—- the cost vs what you can do.  If you know you could just a SB, a few final 4, host a polival convention or other large events like national soccer matches and world cups.

 

4. as for the hotels— that analysis is garbage.  You have to compare apples to apples.  In the east markets are smaller because there are more tc markets.  For example look at seattle ( I’ve lived there) .  Seattle metr stretches from olympia-Tacoma -Seattle-Everett-Bellingham south to north. It’s narrow because of water bodies and mountains.  An equivalence to buffalo would be to talk about the population from Hamilton thru metro Rochester following 90/Q.  The  population is 4M+with hotel rooms.

When it comes to soccer, as far as I can remember, not many European countries get soo much snow, and those who do, like the Scandinavian and NE European countries, follow different calendars to the central and southern European ones, having their championships starting around April and finishing before the end of November.
