Zerovoltz Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 I don't much care for PFF grades...but if you put credence into those....this guy was a higher ranked pass blocker than Orlando Brown. (which isn't hard to believe) He apparently was a horribly graded run blocker. (KC doesn't care about that) Quote
GunnerBill Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 Desperation move. I have never been a huge Smith guy. I was slightly incredulous when the Buccs extended him a few years back. However, the Chiefs ARE desperate at offensive tackle. They are currently hoping on a wing and a prayer that a career average right tackle is suddenly going to turn into a serviceable left tackle and a 4th year player with 9 starts suddenly turning into a serviceable right tackle. I haven't watched a lot of Morris, maybe they have unearthed a gem, but they will need to have done so, because otherwise I think their tackle situation is like season sinking bad. I think Smith is probably their starting left tackle. 3 1 Quote

I am CERTAIN that the Bengals, are quickly going to regret putting Brown at LT and thinking that is going to work. It will be evident in short order. Now, is it risky for KC to sign Dawaan Taylor, a career RT and ask him to play LT...yes that involves risk. I am CERTAIN he'll pass block better than Brown did (I do not think he'll be a good run blocker no matter where you put him..KC doesn't care) They like Morris...his tools and traits are outstanding...but he needs work. I haven't been impressed by Niang the rare times he's actually been healthy....and I DO NOT believe Darrian Kinnard is an NFL OT. This left KC thin at OT...but the were every bit as thin last year. I am also CERTAIN that Andrew Wiley was not a good pass blocking RT. He did an admirable job starting all 17 games. He was a great and versatile backup that did the best he could..and will always be loved in KC..but he was not good either. I would tell you that as we sit here today...KC is BETTER at OT...by a good margin...than they were last year. I won't be surprised if Smith starts, or Morris wins the job. 2 1 1 Quote

I disagree with you on Brown and I disagree on Jawaan Taylor being better. I suggest you go watch some of his Jacksonville film. Brown is a much better player than Taylor is all facets. If you want to compare their careers at right tackle the discrepancy is huge. The chances of a worse right tackle than Brown being a better left tackle than Brown are next to none. I don't make any comment on Morris, maybe he is a diamond in the rough. But if he isn't Smith and Taylor as a tackle combo is a downgrade on what the Chiefs had last year. Success Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 Hot take: the Chiefs will NOT be our biggest obstacle in the AFC this year. The stars aligned for them at the right time last season. I think both Cincy and Buffalo were "better," but KC got hot at the right time (which, of course, is one of the keys to winning a title). Credit to them, and they'll certainly be a contender in '23, but I'm just not as worried about them as a few of the other teams. Our division worries me more than any other team in the conference. 1 2 Quote

The Bengals are also taking a step back at least defensively, and big step back at tight end. This is kind of their last shot before they have to start paying everyone. 4 Quote

I’m assuming you meant Frank Clark. He’s a good one especially in the playoffs. They signed an edge away from SF and drafted another in the first round. They’re going to be tough as defending champs. Yeah beating them in the regular season is exactly the problem. I’d trade those two meaningless regular season wins for a playoff one any day. Yup franchise LT that most teams viewed as a right tackle. I don’t think that’s as big a loss as most on here believe. He might get Burrow beat up. Which isn’t a bad thing. That receiving situation is all about Kelce. All the WR’s can be jag’s. Which they proved last season. Lol yeah Dee Ford was replaced by Frank Clark 😆 whoops 1 Quote
Cray51 Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 Live in Tampa, wife's family are die hard bucs fans, and generally have been very fair in their criticisms of their players. THEY HATED SMITH. HATED. He was consistently the weakness on that line, and it got to the point that there were very strong rumors of some serious mental struggles for him last year. Bucs fans were happy to see him go, and I expect him to struggle with the Chiefs as well. Quote

It's why I'm surprised they didn't bring either safety back. I actually don't mind what they did at Tight End. Irv Smith Jr is a decent low risk, high reward swing at for the fences. And they have upgraded at left tackle. Quote

Safety looks like a major problem. Their front seven remains the same for this year and they added Murphy. They are going to have to live and die by getting to the quarterback. Quote
TheFunPolice Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 (edited) Is this the guy who couldn't decide if he cared or not and would just shrug and jog to the bench while Brady tried to peel his mangled carcass off the turf after taking yet another sack/hit? One game I was watching Brady just laid there for like 10 seconds, probably cursing his decision to come back. Edited May 4, 2023 by TheFunPolice 1 Quote

Completely disagree with this ‘hot’ take. The Chiefs will remain an obstacle for both the Bills and Bengals. Let’s hope it will be the Bills turn next season to challenge the Chiefs in the AFCCG. 2 Quote

Smith dislocated his elbow early last year. He was much worse after that. Not saying he is All Pro, but he is at least average, which is usually sufficient. Quote

In reality...he'll start if Taylor can't smoothly transition to the Left side....or more likely, one of 3rd round pick Wanya Morris doesn't win the job, last years 5th rounder Darrian Kinnard (who didn't play at all) can't win the job...Or if Lucas Niang, can't win the job...they have a good insuarnace policy/hedge there. it's a good move to make sure we can put a capable line on the field. I HOPE Smith isn't called on to start and that Morris or Niang has won the job. Kinnard will never be an OT in this leauge...he has slow feet. https://nfltraderumors.co/andy-reid-confirms-donovan-smith-will-play-left-tackle/ looks like he’ll start @ LT because they don’t have any confidence in Taylor playing LT or the other scrubs playing RT. didn’t even give Taylor a chance at LT after paying him 20M aav to play LT. 🤣 1 1 Quote
