Not sure about this one and that 2023 and 2024 Option Bonus's. I was hoping for a tweet from someone would clear it up. It's a weird contract. Starting next year, and going for 3 years, each year is guaranteed as long as he is playing. But it is not 3 years fully guaranteed at signing. If they cut him before Feb 2024, they'd have like a $50M dead cap hit, but get out of the other 2 $50M years. Quote

So IMO part of that could have been him adapting to not having Adams to throw to. I think most QBs struggle when losing their top WR and his best WR in GB was out a lot last year. This is true and the Jets could have the pieces to reinvigorate him. But it's hard to check back into something you spent a year half checked out of. And there is a lot of space between his level last year and that which Allen is capable of hitting. The Jets and Fins have taken swings they absolutely should have, but I wouldn't trade places with either of them this year let alone for the next 10 1 Quote

If they were in the NFC.........any of the divisions........I think the Jets would have signed Jimmy G or David Carr immediately and tried to win 49ers style. Having Josh Allen in division means you gotta' swing for the fences at QB. The $60M cap hit alone impacts their timeline........they should be a $100M cap space kinda' team entering Zach Wilson's 3rd season right now. Hopefully that applied pressure disrupts the Jets window before that good 2022 draft class starts demanding big contracts after the 2024 season. 3 Quote
TheFunPolice Posted April 25, 2023 Posted April 25, 2023 (edited) it makes the Jets games a lot more interesting, and generally makes for a better story, so I'm excited for it Either way, to be the best you've got to beat the best, and also, either way you play 2-3 playoffs games to get to the Super Bowl. There won't be cupcakes, but you also don't have to play every good team back to back to get there. In fact, if the Bills can get the #1 seed finally then it's a bye week, play the lowest seed left and suddenly you're in the AFC Title game at home. Edited April 25, 2023 by TheFunPolice 2 Quote

That's kind of how I see it but what is confusing is the cap hit vs. the cash hits to the team. @BADOLBILZhad a post as I was typing mine which kind of clears up some of that (I think LOL). Just another general point. I totally disagree with all this "Green Bay" did well in this trade. It's bull. IF they were not bullied by Rodgers into signing the extension, Rodgers will still be under the old contract this year with next to nothing in dead cap. They could have been in a position to trade Rodgers (with one year left on his contract) to anyone who wanted him without taking on any real dead cap. Green Bay paid a lot of cash and a lot of dead cap for those draft picks. All this moving around of money has also caused them to have a $40M cap hit next year for the 33-year-old LT David Bakhtiari. Like the devil, the true cost of all this is in the details. Quote

"You have to know when to walk away," said Rodgers. "I'm excited to put on a New York Jets jersey, and leave pro football in the rearview mirror." Sources inside the Jets organization were reportedly shocked to receive the word from Rodgers. "How much peyote is he smoking??" asked General Manager Joe Douglas. ... 2 Quote

If you still think he's an MVP quality player going into a season where he turns 40.........and given everything that's transpired with him the past year and a half...........then say THAT. Pretty good and great are a significant distance apart. How many games do you think the Bills would have won last year with Zack Wilson and Mike White playing QB? The Jets won 7, and I'm not convinced the Bills would have won that many. Now they're adding Rodgers who, IMO, is in the same tier as Allen and Burrow in that they're capable of playing at an MVP level. NY just drafted arguably more talent in last year's draft (Gardner, Wilson, Johnson, Hall) than Beane has since 2018. I don't think it's a stretch to say they're on the same level as Buffalo. If Miller and White don't return to their pre-injury level of play, the division is wide open. Vegas still has Buffalo as the favorite, but they're only given about a 40% chance of winning the division. That's a long winded way of saying that I think adding Rodgers makes them a credible threat in the AFC. 1 2 Quote

That's a long winded way of saying that I think adding Rodgers makes them a credible threat in the AFC. Remember last off season when the Broncos traded for Russ Wilson? All the pundits getting all whirled up thinking that the Denver Broncos were poised to take down the KC Chiefs in the AFC West? The though process was solid. -Wilson is a top end QB -Man, the Broncos have some WEAPONS with Sutton, Jeudy and a good young RB in Williams -Solid Defense See anything eerily similar about AR to the Jets? I sure do. One thing that is consistent between the 2...A LARGE reason the Denver season imploded was the complete ineptitude their offense showed between their aging QB and their playcalling. Who is calling the plays for the Jests this year? Yes, the same Nate Hackett that oversaw that horrible Bronco offense. And yes, Hackett was "the OC for Rodgers" in Green Bay...but he was not the one making the calls on offense. Game still has to be played on the field, of course. But there are just as many reasons to speculate that the Jests will implode under the pressure as they will contend for the division. If they start out slow that media will turn on Rodgers with the speed of a Don Beebe running down Leon Lett. 1 2 Quote
