With the 30th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Alabama.

The Eagles were heavily tempted to take a defensive tackle here, but we like the depth at that position into round three.

Meanwhile, after losing Miles Sanders to free agency, we do not want to depend solely on Boston Scott, Kenneth Gainwell, and the oft-injured Rashaad Penny (who is only on a one year, $1.35million deal) to be the engine of our running game.

Gibbs' speed, acceleration, and route running abilities make him a weapon in both the run and pass game. With a backfield of Jalen Hurts and Jahmyr Gibbs, opposing defenses will have no choice but to devote serious attention and resources to stopping the run game, which we feel will open things up downfield for AJ Brown and Devonta Smith.

@HappyDays and his probable behind the scenes puppet master @Zerovoltz are now on the clock with the Kansas City Chiefs.

With the 31st pick, the Kansas City Chiefs select Darnell Washington, TE, Georgia.

This is somewhat of a luxury pick for a non-premium position, but there is some logic behind it. On 1st down in 2022, the Chiefs ran 12 personnel 32% of the time and 13 personnel 10% of the time. So multiple TE sets are an important part of their offense. The problem is behind Kelce it is just JAGs at the position. Darnell Washington immediately gives us a true monster at the position and complements Kelce's skill set perfectly.

The Chiefs still don't have a true game changer at WR, but Andy Reid is a master at changing his offense up every year. He found a way to make an offense without Tyreek Hill even more productive by getting the RBs more involved in the passing game and focusing less on deep throws. Having a blocking TE with Washington's attributes opens up the offense in another way entirely. Now they can run heavy sets that will leave defenses reeling with the threat of Mahomes' arm always being there. Pacheco running with a full head of steam behind Darnell Washington is a frightening concept for defenses. And now a red zone offense that was already deadly just got another potent weapon.

The Steelers @CNYfan are on the clock.

At the 32nd Selection of the TSW Mock Draft the Steelers select Dawand Jones OT Ohio State University.    The Steelers really need OL help and feel value meets need at this point.  The Steelers hope DJones will be manning a tackle spot early in the season.

@Alphadawg7 is on the clock with the Texans

With the 33rd pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans select: Edge, B.J. Ojulari, LSU CLICK HERE FOR HIGHLIGHTS

After setting a new foundation for our offense with CJ Stroud and JSN in the first, we are excited to bring in a pass rusher to our defense who has an elite ability to bend the edge, maybe even best in this class.  He has superb balance and body control when turning the corner and possesses an explosive first step.  We love his length and how he uses it to keep clean during the rush with his impressive and effective pass rush moves.  We believe that length can help him improve as a defender against the run allowing him to set the edge and give himself a wide tackle radius.

Round 1, pick 2:  QB, CJ Stroud, Ohio State

Round 1, Pick 12:  WR, Jaxon Smith-Njigba

Round 2, Pick 33:  Edge, B.J. Ojulari, LSU

Texans are done with our 2 round draft and feel really good about landing a QB/WR combo to build our offense around for years to come who already have great chemistry and while adding a pass rushing specialist to our defense.

With the 34th Pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals select O'Cyrus Torrence, G, Univ. of Florida.  The Cardinals need to rebuild the trenches and Torrence is the top pure interior offensive lineman in the draft.  He's a road-grader who never got overwhelmed by a defender, even against Jalen Carter.

@BarleyNY and the Indianapolis Colts are on the clock.

With the 35th selection the Indianapolis Colts select Deonte Banks, CB, Maryland.

Great fit for Indy. Fills a big need at a premium position. Big, fast and physical ant the LOS. He has the potential to be a high end CB1, but he needs to clean up his occasional discipline lapses. Happy that he fell.

@RyanC883 is on the clock for the Rams.

Interesting.

Going the Burrow/Chase or Tua/Waddle route. Surprised it took this long for the trend of keeping college team mates together to catch on. Seems like it would make a lot of sense. Especially with QB/WR chemistry.

I've heard the Texans are sold on Stroud and are trying to trade out of the pick, but I think this might be their best plan, since tanking next year isn't guaranteed. And tough to ask of a brand new coach.

The guy I'm most surprised to see still on the board at this point is Bryan Bresee. Don't think he'll actually last to the second round come draft day. I almost took him at pick 30 for the Iggles, actually.

And they are a team that run an offense I think he fits well.

WIth the 39th Pick, the Rams select Felix Anudike-Uzomah  The Rams have needs all over, at DL, OL, and in the secondary.  The BPA at a position of need appears to be Anudike-Uzomah at this point (Avila from TCU a close second).  The Rams have now upgraded their pass rush which took a major hit when we took Von Miller.  The Seahawks and @NewEra are on the clock

With the 37th pick, the Seattle Seahawks select Steve Avila, OG/C, TCU

We drafted Kenneth Walker so we can turn him into the best RB in the league.  Avila will help us to achieve that goal. Whether it be Guard or Center, we have a pillar of strength in the interior of our line.  We have relative bums @ C and RG, so he may slot in partly based on how the incumbents show out in training camp/ preseason.

@TOboy and the raiders are on the clock.

He was my #2 at 24 for Jacksonville but Murphy was still there

I don't think it has much to do with "trends" and is instead more about it just being a rare occurrence that an NFL team can reunite first round talent pairings of QB and WR from the same college team in the NFL.

Think about what that takes...Like this year, when both are coming out same year and both are top first round prospects, a team will need 2 first round picks in that specific year, and in draft slots where they can realistic draft both players.  Texans this year have #2 and and #12 making it possible given both are coming out at the same time.  But that perfect storm of circumstances is pretty extraordinary to already have.  If said team did not have 2 first round picks, it would then require them to make some sort of big trade up just to get the 2nd guy (likely the WR).

Then you have the scenario where the QB and WR aren't both in the same draft.  That means a team has to draft one of them in one draft, and then be in the right draft slot in a future draft to land the other.  Of course said team also has to need/want a player at the position in that draft spot too instead of someone else at OL, Edge, DT, CB, RB, etc.  Like the Bengals did with adding the QB first in Burrow, then Chase the next draft.

That is why I think it really isn't about trends, more about how rare the opportunity arises where pairing a top end college QB & WR in the NFL actually occurs.  There are a lot of circumstances that have to happen for that to become possible.
