Undersized, mostly unhearalded, played in a good college program surrounded by good players against mostly inferior competition. It's a formula that just never delivers in the NFL I just thought of Corey Moore reading that 😒

Virgil
Leodis McKelvin. I had no idea they were even tracking on him. I was expecting Josh Rosen. Spiller and Whitner didn’t surprise me, but I didn’t believe (or hoped) the rumors weren’t true

He was decent for a rookie year 1 but he still has to prove he was worth the first round pick. Probably the trade up for Sammy Watkins would be the first thing to come to mind. Whitner and Maybin sucked as picks cause I wanted someone else but they weren't like shocking why the hell did we take him. I absolutely hate the Bernard pick. Waste of a 3rd rounder

I even remember ESPN (probably Kiper) saying this was a luxury pick that the Bills roster wasn’t in a position to make. Willis was a good though not a great running back. The selection was not worth the gamble or the 1 year recovery. 2004 JP Losman I didn’t remember any chatter about the Bills taking a QB so the Losman pick came as a surprise. Trading away a 1st rounder in 2005 and whiffing on Losman made this a brutal selection was the final draft pick TD would make as GM. I'm a little confused by your post. 1. I actually expected Buffalo to take McGahee, given the value. He was a likely top 5 pick who fell. It would be like if Jalen Carter fell to 27 this year. Of course we would take him. And Buffalo had a reputation for shocking then world back then on draft day, like when traded our first the previous year for Bledsoe. 2. As for Losman, there was huge talk of Buffalo wanting a QB that year. We desperately wanted Roethlisberger and almost had him. boyst
Whitmer, Spiller, Rousseau, Losman. Watkins I didn't want at all and was amazed we moved up like that.

Dick Jauron, a new coach, needed players who fit his Tampa 2 defense. Whitner fit the role, as did McCargo, who was the only player in the draft who could play NT in his system. That's why he had to trade up for him. 1 hour ago, KingBoots8 said: Watkins over Mack. I think everyone absolutely thought we traded up for the kid in our back yard. I remember dancing around like “ohhhhh snap we got Mack!”… then hearing Watkins just threw me off. I liked Watkins but not enough to trade up for him. Even with as good a prospect as he was thought to be, it just felt like a reach. Whaley needed a star WR for his prodigy, EJ Manuel, to throw to. I was not surprised by the Watkins pick. Remember the revolving door of players that need to come and go to fit into the D-coordinator's (who usually lasted about 2 years) system? So painful.

If we sat still and got him I’d have been fine, but a move up in what was known as a deep WR class was surprising

Not at the table Karlos
Whitner and it's not even close. Watkins there was a lot of reports that Whaley loved him and was trying to trade up. So when it happened it wasn't exactly a surprise.

It would difficult to have a bigger downgrade at a position if you were actively trying to sabotage a team.

I thought by years end Elam had clearly cemented himself in the starters role opposite White. It’s hard to argue with McDermott when it comes to the handling of the secondary but I would’ve liked to have seen Elam start from day one. Elam’s upside over the other corners on the roster is immense IMO.

RyanC883
Bernard: who, why? We have LBs. Basham: what, we just drafted a DE, and the top IOL is on the board, and we need OL help. TJ Grham: Really thought we would draft R. Wilson. What a terrible, awful pick, trading up and then grabbing a JAG receiver.
