counter: the on field rules have changed, the physicality has changed where different types of athletes slot up professionally has changed and there’s now a salary cap.

Jim played in a different era and it’s not just a fad or swing of the pendulum

I don't think it's a fad, but take the Giants for example.  They go as Saquon goes pretty much.  If Daniel Jones continues to improve, they'll be in great shape.

The Titans could have worked had they not hitched their wagon to Tannehill.  Same with the Raiders, although they had to give Carr his shot.  The Bengals have Mixon.

Given the choice, this is how I would build a team.

For the record, I really like the pairing of Cook and Harris, just hope they're utilized properly.  We now have a Kamara/Ingram type of punch.

Well, if operated correctly, the west coast offense is a good, versatile offensive system and Shanahan happens to be the best play caller in the NFL.

The 49ers team that Kyle took to the SB had Matt Brieda and Raheem Mostert as the lead RB's though.

In fact, the Shanahan clan is as responsible as anyone for the death of the "star" RB.    Mike could get any bum off the street over 1,000 yards in his Denver days.

As for needing a better QB..........not really.........Brock Purdy is an excellent and perhaps elite fit for their system.    It was always the main selling point of that offense that you could get by with a much less physically gifted QB so long as they were a quick processor and accurate with good ball placement on short throws.

All that said.........the 49ers haven't been as good as the Bills offensively since Josh Allen broke out in 2020.   You may like the way it looks because the WCO is more familiar to all the old timers but San Francisco is good offensively but their success is driven by their defense.    When they aren't stout defensively, even with all their stars on offense,  they aren't really equipped to get in shootouts with elite QB's.........as evidenced by the curb stomping KC gave them in SF last season.

To be fair, Brock Purdy played better than Garopollo.

I guess what I'm saying is, the Bills would be more lethal with Josh in a WC style offense where he doesn't have to do everything, but can in games when needed.

It shouldn't be the MO.

Singletary ran hard for his size.  Crredit.  He's not a 3 down back.  Cook is not a 3 down back.  That trash OL got the Bills 13 wins out of 16.  You put someone back there so they respect the running game .... The OL gets blamed for too much on this board, sure there could be improvements.  They started tinkiering with Cook and Singletary in the backfield together on a few plays trying to find a solution to their bust of a 2nd round pick.  Everyone sees they need a RB nationwide.  Keep running Josh til the wheels fall off, or get one.

Yes, the team won 13 games...with QB Josh Allen the leading rusher in a lot of those games. Allen was the team's second-leading rusher with 762 yards rushing and led the team in rushing TDs with 7. QB Josh Allen was the biggest reason the team won 13 games... despite the crappy line.

You really don't get how bad that offensive line was last season. Didn't click the links, and didn't rewatch Allen running around with no time to throw in that Cincy playoff game. The Buffalo Bills had the 23rd-ranked offensive line out of 32 teams. That's pretty bad... no bashing... just fact!

Needless to say, the Eagles led the NFL in pass rush win percentage at 52%. Buffalo was 11th at 43% (which dropped after Von Miller's injury) The Bengals were ranked 21st at 37%...and yet still managed to put a ton of pressure on Buffalo QB Josh Allen. (21st out of 32)

Last season's Buffalo Bills offensive line stunk no question.

Here’s how PFF graded all of Buffalo’s qualifying offensive linemen in 2022 (positional ranking):

OT Spencer Brown: 53.4 (76th)

OT Dion Dawkins: 73.8 (24th)

OT David Quessenberry: 59.3 (69th)

OG Rodger Saffold 44.0 (74th)

OG Ryan Bates: 61.5 (41st)

OG Greg Van Roten: (52nd)

C Mitch Morse: 61.0 (24th)

Currently, the Buffalo Bills have an amazing alien unicorn at QB (who was somewhat injured in 2022) and if this regime doesn't upgrade that O line they might not have him for long.

Their rankings do nothing for me.  They'd rate them higher with the right backfield.   My argument is a pro rb gives him as much protection as an offensive line at this point.  RBs are easier to find than Will Woolfords.    The Bengals game was just the culmination of the one man gang.  One team could run, and the other couldnt, predictably. What we do know is a running game suits the home field.  Beane has a yosemite sam cut out like an amusement park would in order to get on a roller coaster.  If youre bigger, you cant play rb in Buffalo.

No idea what you are attempting to convey here?

Those rankings have to do with the overall ability of the Buffalo offensive line to pass block and run block. Better RBs wouldn't do much for the Buffalo Bills as they simply don't run the ball enough with the starting RB.

Believe it or not, the 2022 Buffalo Bills were #2 overall in rushing yards per attempt...while being 15th in rushing attempts per game. Probably because of QB Josh Allen.

Devin Singletary didn't have more than 18 carries in any one game in 2022. 8, 6, 9, 11, 6, 17, 14, 8, 13, 18, 14, 13, 8, 13, 12, 7.

Those three losses were to Miami, 9 rush attempts, NYJ, 8 rush attempts, and Minnesota 13 rush attempts.

Looking at Tennessee RB Derrick Henry, the least amount of carries he had in a game for 2022 was 11 in a loss to Philly. The most carries was 32 in a win against Houston. Most RBs need an average of 10-20 carries in a game to get into a decent rhythm.

The Buffalo Bills are a pass-first team and they need to protect QB Josh Allen in the pocket. They failed to do that against Cincinnati in that playoff game and it showed big time and a big reason for that loss. A better RB isn't going to better protect the QB simply because they don't run enough to make that work.

Brandon Beane needs to stop screwing around with these average joes for the O line as all it seems to do is get them a winning record against average teams. When the Bills get to the playoffs they face elite teams and an average line isn't going to get the job done. We have seen this in the last few years.

I shudder to think of what Buffalo would have looked like against the Philadelphia Eagle's fierce pass rush had they made it that far.

Fix the O line. Get a stud receiver opposite Diggs.  Have a better gameplan/calling.  Do that and the run game would be fine.  KC/Bengals/Philly/Rams/Tampa/49ers(at the time)/NE/ATL didnt have a star RB.  That covers the last 7 SB.  Could probably go further I dunno.

While the Bills do need to upgrade WR-2. I would be OK going into the season with the current group provided they can improve the OL in this draft as well as improve the running game with the RB's doing the running.

As many have already stated the present version of the NFL doesn't rely on RBs as such. Running games have been replaced with short passes to sustain drives by making 3rd and longs limited. I think a big reason Josh was "off" last season was he wasn't dumping things off as much maybe because his elbow or maybe lesser options to pass short too. I think it definitely needs to return if we're going to see our offense improve this season. A good slot man could do us wonders.

It's possible that losing Daboll hurt Allen's game more than we thought. Who knows.

Please go back and look at the last 10 years of Superbowl champs and please point out the one that had a "super star" RB? Would it be nice sure, but hardly where you should be spending your money in the salary cap era.

I think they should at least get another outside receiver to compete.  But they can only do what they can do. Cap strapped, who knows how the draft will play out, player in draft could be good or not be good.

Beane really needs to a HR in this draft. Given our cap situation, this is probably the only way we can improve the team this year. I dont' expect D-HOP or any other significant FA signings at this point.

For the amount of resources we have put in rbs, it’s embarrassing we don’t have a guy that teams fear. Imagine a legit stud rb next to Allen. Mobile qbs are like steroids to rbs. Plus, they can save wear and tear on Allen in short yardage situations.

im not saying I want Robinson. But I won’t exactly be mad. Sick of these scat backs.

Believe it or not I was well aware of the team ypc.  You OL sticklers try to look smart. The eye test is good enough for quality. Game 1 I knew the Rams OLwas putrid. Anyone can see Pace was excellent, his assignment would be often 15 yards from the play.
