Joe B’s Athletic article today:

Lions get Nos. 27 and 137, Bills get Nos. 48, 55, 183, 194

Bills picks after trade: Nos. 48, 55, 59, 91, 130, 183, 194, 205

Bills pick Campbell at 48, Marvin Mims at 55, Antonio Johnson at 59.

You don’t trade from 27 down 21 spots unless there is a 2024 1st attached to the deal.  The draft is weak as it is.  Having 3 x mid to late second round picks is very blah.

just the IDEA of banking on a rookie to play MLB on a team with high expectations seems like a hole in the plan

Any rumors of cuts after the draft?

Players, or decision makers? 😁

For what its worth, his combine numbers are similar to Paul Posluszny's.

This is true. Campbell is taller, thicker and faster, but it's close:

That would be scary and a wasted pick.  Not a big college fan, does anybody that follows college ball more closely think he has a ceiling closer to a Kuechly than a guy like Pos?

So physically, it's closer to Kuechly. Campbell isn't as fast, but he is bigger. How he drops in zone, there is just so much intelligence in his game, similar to Kuechly. He also has those leadership qualities. I hate to always harp on that 3 cone, but a man 6-5, 250 running that 3 cone is absurd.

I know people don't love Walterfootball....here is some breakdown:

Strengths:
Instincts
Excellent run defender
Quick to the sideline
Good tackler
Hard hitter

Very physical
Will take on blocks
Can shed blocks and make tackles
Tall but plays with good leverage
Diagnosis skills
Read-and-react skills
Fits a 4-3 or 3-4 defense
Always around the ball
Quick to the flat
Closing speed
Rangy
Advanced pass-coverage linebacker
Can help cover against tight ends and running backs
Can drop into zone coverage
Good vision in zone
Disrupts passing lanes
Excellent length in pass coverage
Strong, thick build
Big linebacker; imposing presence
Played on special teams as well
Durable

Weaknesses:
Lacks elite speed
Quality athleticism, but not supremely so

Here is their comp:

Player Comparison: Luke Kuechly. Campbell has a similar playing style to what Kuechly brought. Campbell is a poor man's version, however, as he is not as fast and athletic as Kuechly and displays lesser instincts. Still, Campbell can make some plays that are reminiscent of Kuechly. Campbell could be a lesser version of Kuechly in the NFL, which means a very good starter given that Kuechly probably belongs in the Hall of Fame.

That all passes the eye test of what I see. Do you want the anti-Tremaine, who can do a lot of the same things athletically? This is the guy imo.

We all know the hole to fill. Yes it's possible the Edmunds replacement is on our roster, but c'mon... who really doesn't think we're adding an ILB????

Jack Campbell has been the buzz since the Combine. Yet, The Athletic just came out with their top 100. Here's what they said about him:

Campbell has excellent size to take on blocks in the box, and he’s more than willing to do so. An effective communicator pre-snap, Campbell plays with good awareness to discern play concepts and effectively play the run. He flashes the ability to stack and shed climbing offensive linemen while being a sound tackler.

But he will let the game come to him at times instead of being the aggressor. He is a good athlete, but it doesn’t always show because he plays in a controlled manner — there are times you wish he used his gifts more.

Campbell’s awareness does carry over against the pass. He is at his best in zone, where he can read the game, make plays on the ball and get into passing lanes. He’s also a fluid enough mover to hold his own in man.

Campbell has the size and athleticism to quickly adjust to the NFL. He doesn’t always play to his testing numbers, but if he becomes more comfortable, he has the ideal traits and play style to be a three-down linebacker.

I don't know about anyone else, but there were many parts of that report that absolutely screamed Buffalo.

It'd be amazing if we got him in the 2nd, but wouldn't be shocked if we took him in the 1st.

Yes!! Please get him.

It's kind of sad that our team with Super Bowl aspirations for next season has to consider drafting players above their projected draft slot because of position need. Doesn't speak well for our previous roster moves at that position. Hopefully, we don't do it.

They might not

They might go with big hogs, upfront, and small linebackers

Pittsburgh would scare me in that situation.  They have pick 32 and another one soon after that.  If Bills wants Campbell they’ll probably have to take him at 27

Awesome. We take a LB and the chiefs and bengals get more offensive weapons that our spanking new MLB can’t stop.

He has him #53, so stating the obvious seems a reach at 27.  Not sure how realistic it would be to get him in the 2nd, but that would be pretty sweet.

I think the problem is the Steelers picking 17 and 33. No matter if they take BPA tackle or Joey Porter, I'm willing to bet they go LB at 33.

They probably view him as Jack Campbert.

If the Bills gamble on getting him in the 2nd, they have to manufacture a pick between 33 and 48 cause Pitt. picks again at 49....not to mention that stretch of picks are teams most likely to bleed the Defensive talent pool dry.  Actually, I think no matter what, we need to come up with a higher 2nd while keeping 59.

I would trade next year's 1st in a heartbeat to do it....and ( possibly a 4th ). I think then (with the 2nd pick in the 5th, we can knock this one out of the park.

If Robinson falls to us, I'm looking to move down and deal to the Saints or Philly at 29 or 30 and pick up an extra 3rd. That being said, I'm guessing the Bills pick will come down to ( Darnell Wright, Nolan smith, Kincaid or Meyer, Kancey, Campbell or BPA corner. Assuming the TEs are gone and I don't think they feel BPA is Oline where they pick, they may have to take a chance.

Yeah but projected draft slots are BS. It's just somebody's opinion.

Most people have Campbell early mid-second round. He will be gone by our second-round pick.

Most people had Geroge Karlaftis in the top ten and he went like 31 last year. Most people had Elam in round two and he went in round 1.

A projected draft slot really just means a perceived draft slot.

Non of it matters. The all-knowing Bengals just replaced their top ten pick left tackle with a 3rd round right tackle who moved to left tackle and is on his third team.

I would just have a hard time passing on a player that is a first round consensus grade in Robinson, even though we need a linebacker

The reason why I want more second round picks is because I don’t think Robinson will be there and there really is only about 15 guys that have first round grades this year

We won't take Campbell in the first

As long as we find a trade down partner we won’t. There’s likely 20 or less 1st round graded players in this draft which means we’re going to right on the edge of getting a 1st round talent depending on how many QBs go.
