Seems stupid to bet on an oft-injured player to stay healthy.  However, this is what this regime does.  They struggle to find hidden gems, so they just go back to the same wells over and over again.

He was playing good till he dove at air. but that hustle when he got injured, is the hustle/Juice the team need and thrives off of.

3M, for a backup DT that can bring pressure,  hard to argue with that.

He is a 3 penetrator, not a run stuffing NT.

use him the correct way and its disruptive.

How does this washed up gas giant keep getting more than minimum deals from Beane?

I know fans like him because he plays to the crowd on the field and in social media but the reality is that he can't stay healthy and is a terrible run defender who basically refuses to use his natural size to be stout.

I said it last year..........it's fine to sign him to a minimum deal but there isn't much of a market for his services.

That "hustle" was just idiotic.    The game was over and there was very little chance that lunge brings down Jones.   It was eye-wash.......an attempt to make himself look valiant that backfired.    What the guy needs to do is play smart and under control.     He is more concerned with winning over the ball watchers.    McBeane accept him for what he is.........but last year his market should have been league minimum and that was all they eventually got out of him.    At age 31 I doubt the light is going to come on for him but even if it miraculously did.......pay him for that NEXT year........he simply hasn't earned more than league minimum with his performance in recent seasons.

Am I thinking of the wrong play? Wasn’t he running to go celebrate with Hyde. He dove because he hurt his hamstring on the play. If he wasn’t hurt he would have kept running and would not have dove.

My question is will the shoulder be healthy, did he need/get surgery?

Hyde wasn't in the game when he hurt his hamstring. He had just left the game with the neck injury that ended his season. He was running to celebrate Milano's pick 6.

Kingsley Jonathan was signed to the roster after the year under a Futures contract.

Glad to see him talked about. I have thought that he could make this team as the last Defensive End on the 53 if they decide to not pay Shaq and I don't think he'd bring any less than Epenesa or Basham has.

Though I'm still hoping Shaq is brought back under an inexpensive deal.

Thanks for the update and I agree with you on what he can bring to the team and agree on wanting to bring Shaq back as well.

Yes he hurt his hamstring running earlier in the season.    He hurt his shoulder with a goofy diving lunge at Mac Jones later in the season.   But it's easy to get them mixed up because at this stage he is probably always going to be in the process of getting injured.   What has never changed is that Phillips IQ drops a good 50 points when he steps on the field.   If that weren't the case he'd have been a star.

I would rather they extend Daquan and Taron, before restructuring Dion or Tre.  I know they have options to free money up, but think they are overpaying for what Jordan Phillips is and brings to them.  Based on the last 3 years, he’ll get them about half a season and a sack per million.  I hope I’m wrong and he has 9.5 sacks this year, but I’m skeptical of that happening.  I wonder if anyone else was offering him $3m+.  It sounds like they may have offered Shaq near the vet min, from some twitter noise I had seen.  I’d be disappointed, if I were him.  He was much more valuable to us last season than 97.

I LOVE extended Daquan.  I would think he wants a big pay day or we would have done it.  OR they agreed on it and are close and waiting for the right time to finalize it.

Jordan Phillips is good when healthy and think he can be healthier than in the past.  He is a playmaker and disruptive on the field.  I am confident his pay is based on performance and/or playing time.

I agree I would prefer to pay Shaq over JP.  I like them both and want them both on the team though.

I am fine restructuring Dion if we need the money.  Not comfortable with Tre and was not comfortable with Diggs either.

Go Bills!

Agree with almost all of this, except I don't think they should rush to extend Daquan. He was excellent for us last year but he will be 32 by the time he hits FA after next season, and he didn't have a huge market when he was 30 so I think they are right to take their time and let it play out with him. If they want him back after 2023 I am sure they will be able to make it happen. But they should be conscious "the wall" can't be super far away for him.

Gunner...interesting take!  I a big fan of almost all of your opinions.  I never thought on Daquan this way and you are intriguing me.  Good call.  Worst case, not much down side to not extended Daquan.  Worst case we pay slightly more than we would now, but, could save money next year as well.

Funny, but, possibly true

Yes Daquan Jones is the same $4M block-upier that he was when Carolina signed him away from TN.    Why Beane had to pay him over $7M aav and $10M gtd for that role I don't know.   But the standard for DT1T play got very low on TSW with all the fake hype that OBD gave that turd Star Lotulelei to justify paying him $40M+ for 3 seasons.   In some places where they expect good DT play Jones might have been a pay cut candidate with his base salary over $6M this season........not an extend candidate.

Either Beane is not the wizard people think he is or McD is telling him to just get it done.

3rd week of UFA handing out 3M contracts to DTs is not a good look.  And even though it's a moderate deal, it should be remembered when there's little to no cap room to make a trade at the deadline.

Hopefully we will someday have a regime that consistently wins the division, gets double digit wins, makes the playoffs every year, and assembles rosters that place them as superbowl favorites...

*Of course the ultimate goal is to win the superbowl and until that happens, there is room for improvement on the roster.  But the level of criticism and disdain this regime gets from some posters is laughable.

hopefully his contract requires him to see a trainer before/after every game.  Dude appears to lack the ability to properly stretch given that hammy last year.

Overall: love this signing.  Great guy who causes chaos in the other teams backfield as a backup DT.  Fantastic.  I also won't be surprised if we draft a DT in Rd. 5 or so--someone who just eats space.

yes, he is a huge three gap penetrator. very good for pressure. not good if you're playing him at NT and expecting him to run defend. that's not his skill set.
