my answer would be.....you stay true to your board......you put the scouting work in before the draft and rank the players from 1 to 300.....the day of the draft comes and its pretty simple....you take BPA or get cute and try to trade down a little...or go up and get the guy who is BPA and fills your #1 need.....you do not reach more than 1 or 2 spots to fill a need. lets take this hypothetical big board that the bills brain trust could put together:

#8- peter skoronski OT

#19- paris johnson OT

#20- darnell wright OT

#24- anton harrison OT

#26- broderick jones OT

#35 - dawand jones OT

so, at #27 i have no trouble taking any of those OT's except #35.......obviously i have no idea who else might be avail at #27

right now today, Oline is the weak link on this team and needs to be fixed. if you start forecasting our needs for 2024, then you can justify using a 1st round pick on every position group except QB

since everyone else is ranked lower than 27, you need to be prepared for the idea that all are gone.  And you don't like 35, and lets say your next olineman is ranked 46 on your board.  Do you take 35? or take a different position?

I obviously like Jack Campbells size and coverage ability, he could really help with the middle of the field problems we had on defense! When Edmonds was out our defense looked terrible up the middle, so fixing that has to be really high on our priority list. But 27 just seems high to draft him, maybe we can trade down a few spots and get him.

i doubt all 5 of those OT's are gone by #27, but its certainly possible.

if i'm hell bent on filling a need at OT and #35 is all thats left, then im trying to trade down, pick up draft capital

or more realistically....i'm staying at #27, taking BPA and filling my 2nd or 3rd need...could be WR, TE.....or even a LB or RB if that Bijon falls

theres just too many possibilities to cover them all.......i'm just doing everything possible to not reach to fill a need based on my board.

The number 1 reason we haven’t won a Super Bowl yet is our defense. I’d like to think that it was mostly Fraizer and now he’s gone. But it’s not the Oline. We can’t stop the Chiefs and we can’t stop the Bengals. That’s the truth. It’s not glamorous and it’s not the popular opinion but it’s reality. We are fine on the Oline. We couldn’t even hold a lead in a playoff game for 13 seconds. Our offense has been the best thing about this team during this run.

Nah they had held the Chiefs to like 270 yards with less than 3 minutes left in that divisional game loss.    They lost a shootout because they tried to slow the game down in the 3rd quarter and took the ball out of the hands of Josh Allen on a couple third downs and punted.     Couldn't afford to give away those 2 possessions in a game where KC already had 2 extra possessions due to coin flip luck.

The Bengals loss was just a disgrace on both sides of the ball but make no mistake that the offense was even worse than the defense.

I don’t think teams look at just the next spot on board. If you think you can get campbell and Bergeron by staying put   But taking wright at 27 means there is no linebacker that you consider starting quality at 59, you need to consider that.

the #1 reason we got bounced from playoffs is our O-line is below average

phi & kc have the best Olines in the league

it don't matter how many weapons we add or if we get a new LB

significantly improve the Oline or its another wasted year of josh

And Bengals just added a top 5 LT, of course at the expense of KC

Now this is encouraging, last time I checked the other thread about meeting with prospects it seemed that we are completely ignoring OL. I really hope we draft one in the first two rounds.

I'd take the top-rated MLB because likely no one is taking one before 27.  OTOH many OTs will be off the board by then and you'll probably be able to find a decent one in round 2.

"“Alabama edge rusher Will Anderson, a likely top-five pick, says that Tennessee’s Darnell Wright is the best OT he faced in college. Anderson mentioned how much better Wright got year-to-year. Pointed to his ability to mirror rushers and anchor at his size.”

Anderson made Wright a lot of money with that statement.

Jack Campbell, I just think he is a better player very instinctive and has that dog mentality, him and Milano would be scary. Wright is fundamentally sound. I just don't see him mauling people, we need O-lineman that want to knock the hell out of the man across from them I don't get that from him.

I don't think either will be the pick at 27. Campbell is too much of a reach there. Wright would be an outright replacement of Spencer Brown, which Beane seems hesitant to do, citing his lack of an offseason and minor injuries being the cause of his less than stellar performance last season.

Can someone point me to a single draft coverage website that has Jack Campbell as a 1st Round pick?

I've looked through the Big Boards for NFL.com, ESPN, Fox, CBS, NBC, Sports Illustrated, Sporting News, Draftwire, PFF, Pro Football Network, the Draft Network, DraftTek and Tankathon.  Not to mention numerous YouTube channels that I've been following for years.  The earliest I've seen him ranked is early 40s.  Most have him as a mid/late 2nd Round selection.

All the hype around this guy is due to the monster hole we have at MLB, and the weak Linebacker class leaving us without many other options.  It is a terrible draft strategy to select a guy 15-20 picks too early with that valuable 1st Round selection, because you are scared of being left empty-handed.  If this is the thinking, I would rather Brandon Beane sign someone like Zach Cunningham, Corey Littleton, Deion Jones... or start making phone calls for a Day 3 pick.

Same websites only have 3 LBS graded as a top 100 pic You pick, campbell , Simpson, or Sanders, or you pick a guy most people never expect to be an NFL starter. Thats the dilmemma.
