Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell is being treated for a concussion after falling at a hotel in Washington late Wednesday.

The longtime Kentucky lawmaker tripped at a dinner event and was admitted to a hospital, spokesman David Popp told USA TODAY on Thursday.

"He is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days of observation and treatment," Popp said. 

"The leader is grateful to the medical professionals for their care and to his colleagues for their warm wishes."

In 2019, the Kentucky Republican, 81, who served as majority leader from 2015 to 2021, tripped and fell at his home in Kentucky, suffering a shoulder fracture.

They need to put the likes of him Biden, Feinstien & a few others out to pasture !! What is the normal retirement age they are all well past that you shouldn't be allowed to work when you need to where a diaper & can't walk up a flight of stairs with out falling .

 

Which i feel for them because it won't be long before we are all right there & it's getting closer every day ... 

 

P.S. Schumer is another that needs to retire ...

Instead of setting an age limit, why don't we make all political candidates take an IQ test or something like the Wonderlic at the NFL combine, and then publish the results. If someone decides to vote for a brain-dead politician, it is their prerogative.

I couldn’t agree more. I’ve mentioned this before. I worked for decades in and around State government and I saw it so many times. In the case of the federal government most of these people simply don’t know anything else. They’ve been in Washington for so long that it’s become their home, their social circle, and essentially their entire life. They’re not there to use their experience and wisdom as public ‘servants’. They’re there because just like the classic Richard Gere line from Officer and a Gentleman they’ve “got nowhere else to go”! It’s sad and pathetic and needs to stop. The voters in these districts are not doing anyone a favor.

Just weeks after a severe fall in Washington D.C. that sent him to the hospital for a number of days, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is reportedly preparing for retirement. 

 

"Multiple sources confirm that Senators John Barrasso of North Dakota, John Cornyn of Texas and John Thune of South Dakota are actively reaching out to fellow Republican senators in efforts to prepare for an anticipated leadership vote — a vote that would occur upon announcement that McConnell would be retiring from his duties as leader, and presumably the Senate itself,"

Once you're no longer quick enough to retract back into your protective shell when you trip it's probably time to hang em up.

I’d set it at an even 70. 
That would discourage the 67 year olds from running for Senate/Pres/VP because they’d necessarily be one termers only. 
But even 72 or 75 would be better than what we have now.

It is long forgotten, but when Reagan’s age became an issue he committed to taking periodic mental acuity tests if elected. 
I guess he forgot to schedule those tests.

Wishing nothing bad for Mitch (he is at a minimum a bastion of stability, even if many people don't like his particular variety of stability), is this not even more proof that we need to move away from the gerontocracy currently governing America?

This is the job of the press.

Before he slipped into pure hack status, conservative commenter and radio guy Hugh Hewitt did this with Trump. If I remember correctly, he asked Trump, "What is the nuclear triad?" Trump obviously had no idea what he was talking about. (It is the Cold War strategy that our nukes are deployed on land, in air, and on submarines, making a Russian knock-out of all our nuclear defenses practically impossible.) Hewitt made a big deal about this, suggesting Trump wasn't qualified to be President given his shocking ignorance of a key U.S. defense doctrine. Until Trump was nominated and he conveniently forgot all about this.

That's the kind of question debate moderators should ask. And they shouldn't let go until the candidate either fesses up that he simply doesn't know, or reveals his ignorance by trying to bluff his way through it (see Trump's recent Iowa comments on a carbon sequestration pipeline)
