BritBill
Yeah, good for Geno. Not so much for Seattle.
Charles Romes
I can’t believe he managed to put up that kind of season with real game reps being so limited for so long. Kind of reminded me of our own Todd Collins who rode the bench for a decade in Washington. Then led the team to the playoffs out of nowhere. colin
between this and what car signed for, it seems like a starting qb in the nfl who is at or above replacement quality costs 35MM per year. based on that, Jackson in baltimore will get 50+ with like 200 guaranteed. similar for dude on the chargers. WhitewalkerInPhilly
I'm curious to see what is guaranteed money. Because Seattle has Denver's 1st round and 2nd round picks for the next two drafts I absolutely can see them front loading guarantees and then scouring project rookies in the next two years. With a reliable if unspectacular vet at QB locked up, they can afford to do their homework. Can you imagine them trading back again this year to get three first rounders? QB analysis from David Carr and EJ Manuel. What a time to be alive. He wasn't even any good on the ACC network or whatever it was he did with college for a few years.

ProcessTruster
Good for him. Guy stuck with it for years. Watch their games, he can bring it. A guy I root for.

RiotAct
good for him! Great story IMO, how he was able to turn it around in Seattle.

He could always throw pretty well, and his best attribute is his ability to be very accurate on short passes. He needed to figure out how to play QB in the NFL. Cap keeps increasing and so few decent QBs in the league. If you think you have one you sign him. Plus this is only 3 years and Carr is 4 so no real long term issues if they both fail

Gugny
I'm actually very happy for Geno Smith. But I think the Seahawks just Fitz'd themselves.
Fan in Chicago
Good for Geno. He has persisted, including through all the butt-fumble jokes, and had a competent season last year. This deal does not say that Seahawks are committed to him as "the guy". It covers their downside and still lets them draft a QB who can transition over the next 3 years. Don Otreply
Good for Geno, he has gone from being a pathetically bad QB to a serviceable QB, and he cashed in at a rate to high for his actual skill set, yet by current standards acceptable for that skill set. Thats the sort of money you pay a guy like Lamar Jackson, a serviceable QB that can get you to the playoffs every other year.
