And really is untradeable for two years but i wouldn't tell Diggs and agent that as you just want to placate for next year. He can always redo his deal, to become more trade-able. If a players wants out they can make it happen. 2 Quote

They'd still have to eat 11,856,111 this year and around $26 million dollars worth of dead cap over the next 4 years. Essentially they would be paying him 7.5 million dollars a year for the next 5 years to not play here. Not ideal, and if a team inquires, the compensation definitely has to be at a premium given the contract situation.. but I wouldn't hate it. Diggs is elite, but we haven't won with him. Outside of Josh Allen, I'm not upset if we "smartly" trade/move-off of anyone on this roster. KC shows it can be done. Traded Tyreek and let their #1 Safety and #1 CB walk.. won a Super Bowl the next year. 1 1 Quote
TheFunPolice Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 (edited) There's something amiss with Diggs. When he tried to leave the stadium without even meeting with the team post-game after the Bengals loss, plus the blowup at Allen on the sidelines it was a bad sign that there are some serious issues here. IF there is a real issue here and we could get a 1st rounder from Dallas then maybe you make the move. Edited March 6, 2023 by TheFunPolice 1 Quote

I think this is much more related to coaching frustrations than any major rift with Josh. 1 Quote

But I don't like that we keep getting needled by it. I don't like that whispers keep coming from his family (brother). And I don't like that Diggs has not spoken up about anything. I don't doubt Diggs would prefer to leave and that his contract is the hold up at this point. I doubt he does, it is an unaffordable contract to get rid of. I hope he can find a way not to be a good soldier in the locker room. Exactly. A lot of little things that don't have to happen and collectively it's unnecessary and if not an irritant, a distraction. Great player but IF he really wants out, f*** him. I don't want any player who doesn't want to be hear and catch passes from Josh. $35 million is a big cap hit to swallow (even spread over mulitple years), but for the right compensation and IF he doesn't want to be here, let's do it. 1 Quote
Alphadawg7 Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 (edited) This seems like a non-story to me. I get the reason people are talking about it, but here is what we know: He already followed the Cowboys, so he didn't unfollow the Bills and then followed the Cowboys. If the main priority for Diggs was to play with his brother, he would NOT have signed an extension just last year to remain in Buffalo until the end of his career essentially. Everyone and their mom knows Josh Allen is better than Dak, its not even a debate. So we know Stefon isn't looking at Dallas as a better opportunity for him in terms of production and QB play. Dallas already has a #1 WR and even if Diggs became the new #1 there, it would be more like 1A and 1B on a team who also wants to run a lot. He already hated that in Minnesota. Diggs this season literally said Josh Allen saved his career and changed his life forever. He and Josh are super close, more so than most other QB and WR's are when it comes to life off the field. The cap hit from Diggs contract (both this year and next year) make him almost impossible to trade for the Bills. There is literally no incentive to trade Diggs unless something changes and some impossible rift or divide pops up between the team and Diggs, which there are not really any signs of right now. So I have a hard time believing Diggs suddenly wants out of Buffalo, especially for Dallas. Wouldn't surprise me if he just did this just to troll social media because of the all the dumb speculation he wanted out or wanted to go to Dallas this offseason. Post June 1st would only be a 12 million cap hit. compared to the 37.5 million he's on the books for but doesn't help the team prior to then either so it kind of makes no sense for the Bills to do it unless it's for major assets coming back. benderbender Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 It's the passive aggressive nature of it that bothers me. I thought he was alpha male, type A, goal-oriented leader. This flies against what we thought he was and makes him look like a Viking. Quote
Nephilim17 Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 The more I think about this the more I don't like it. One of two scenarios must be at play here: 1 .He either wants to stay in Buffalo and did this all the same. Now older folks don't give a crap, but Diggs has to know that most people under 30 will be talking about this. He has to know this. That's an unnecessary distraction. Even if it was playful, it was unnecessary and dumb and attention getting. Again, at face value it means nothing but getting thousands or millions of people to talk about it (and that's happening) is unnecessary. Not a smart move. 2. He wants to go. Can someone give me a plausible explanation that is different? 5 minutes ago, The Wiz said: Post June 1st would only be a 12 million cap hit. compared to the 37.5 million he's on the books for but doesn't help the team prior to then either so it kind of makes no sense for the Bills to do it unless it's for major assets coming back. True, but he would still carry a $24M dead cap hit next year too. So even a post June 1st trade is going to be a major cap issue for the Bills who already don't have cap space. Under his current deal as it stands now, Bills can not afford to trade him. The only way a team would ever consider taking on those cap hits is if that team was tearing it all down and willing to be in cap hell for the next 2 seasons as part of clearing out all the cap and starting over. Bills obviously are not doing that and are in full pursuit of a Super Bowl. So unless something changes with his contract, Diggs is a Bill for at least the next 2 seasons. 2 Quote

SectionC3 Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 (edited) Everyone is replaceable. Some are more easily replaceable than others. But everyone is replaceable. (Note: this axiom does not apply to Josh Allen, who is not replaceable.) Personally, I prefer volunteers to hostages. If he wants out, then that’s fine. He can rework his deal and leave for a destination of our choosing. If not, then that’s fine too. Gotta have people who want to be here. Edited March 6, 2023 by SectionC3 Quote

He unfollowed the Bills last year and deleted all the pics related to the Bills. So yeah, non-story until I see something that tells me there is a story. Edited March 6, 2023 by Alphadawg7 1 Quote
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 This seems to be the normal disease that all #1 WR’s have. My one Steelers’ fan buddy warned me about this when I told him how Allen and Diggs were BFF’s. He said the same was true of Ben R and AB— they were out there throwing passes to each others’ sons in training camp, going out to eat, etc. Then when AB didn’t get the ball as much, all of that went out the window. He believes the coaching staff is never going to get him a SB. His relationship with Josh may have been a bit soured at the end of the season but my guess is he is more upset at the coaching staff than Josh. Remember what Josh repeated multiple times during the season? I cant force it to Diggs. Gotta make a smart decision. Go to the open guy. Etc. I think the coaching staff was drilling into his head not to feed Diggs when it hurts the team. To someone like Diggs, that could be a negative. 1 Quote
