9th richest owner in football and somehow he was able to convince Albany they should give him hundreds of millions of dollars from the taxpayers just to buy an updated version of what they already have.

It works both ways.    It's money that could have been used elsewhere..........but at the same time the funds were contested and won in court.     Just saying it's $1B all coming from taxpayers has the OBVIOUS inference that it's coming directly out of taxpayer's pockets.   Which it is NOT.   It's coming from a general fund and a significant portion of which was sourced from Indian land owned casino profits.

Minnesota is a solid comparison and an ideal example, IMO. very modern and enclosed. When adjusted for 2022 dollars, the cost was about what the Bills stadium will cost.

 

Indy also did well with Lucas Oil Field, it has a unique throwback look. That cost @1billion adjusted for inflation.

 

The cost of doing business is expensive in NY.

 

Will be interesting what Green Bay, KC and Chicago do as their time comes for new stadiums.

I am acting like not every detail about this place has not been released yet, because they haven’t. We have some artistic renderings and a couple of short blurbs in news coverage.
 

A roof is certainly a practical upgrade, one they decided not to include. What I was asking is does that fact negate all the other potential new practical improvements and convenience features this new building may include? Because it sounds like it does for you.

I'm simply asking if I'm still getting rained and snowed on and freezing my butt off in the winter, what are taxpayers really getting for the hundreds of millions of dollars they're contributing to this?  I prefer it to be more than mainly cosmetic differences.

We are getting a brand new building to watch the team in. We are getting a new long term lease, providing some security that the team stays put for at least a reasonable amount of years into the future. Not enough? Stay home.

It looks generic. Boring. Unappealing. Nothing screams “Buffalo” to me. There are no unique features that stand out and make people instantly say “oh that’s the Bills stadium”. Looking from the outside I can’t tell if it’s an airport, a soccer stadium, or a place to watch football.

 

And it looks like it’s old already. More like an early 2000’s stadium. If you were visiting a city you’ve never been and they told you this stadium was built in 2002, would you even question it? Probably not. It looks like a generic 2002 stadium. Like someone out of Madden build-a-stadium.

 

In fact it kinda-sorta looks like a more shapely Metlife stadium, which was built a decade and a half ago and is universally panned by Jets & Giants fans.

 

 

With taxpayers contributing nearly $1B, I am bothered by getting a generic, boring, unappealing stadium.

 

Out of those, the Merc Benz stadium is the only one that stands out to me. The Bills rendering is just as interesting as the others and doesn't cost nearly as much.

Ah, bribing a billionaire at the expense of the taxpayers, who also then get the privilege of paying an ungodly amount to actually go to a game and freeze in Dec/Jan.

 

Not to mention the fact that the weather is certainly no advantage to the Bills offense, despite the folks who mistakenly think it is.

I've never heard of someone wanting to build their house with no roof and then wasting the massive amount of energy needed to heat it for it to just radiate right off into the sky.

Chicago already released a bunch of renderings I thought.  I could be wrong.

 

I just looked, Lucas Oil Stadium looks great.  I'd take that in a heartbeat.  Has a little bit of a steampunk look to it.  Very unique.

It doesn't effect my life but doesn't mean I should just be satisfied they are staying. 

 

The issue I have is that around the league the stadiums that have been built or being built are state of the art. Even other leagues are upgrading their stadiums to get them up to date. Look at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. This winter they have done a big make over with adding a bar that overlooks centre field. The way sports have been heading  the game isn't the major draw anymore stadium wise. Most can stay home if they just want to watch the game. 

 

This goes for the Sabres too. I hope with them being good again and attendance rising they use some of that money a put it back into the arena and get it up to date.

I am certainly not defending the way stadiums are funded in this country. But the Bills were not getting another long term lease on the current stadium. The league made clear it was time for them to get something done on a new build.

 

A roof would probably have helped the team’s offense as it’s currently constructed. But roof/no roof doesn’t mean much to me personally as a fan. I am outside for hours before the game anyways.

yes...you should be satisfied they're staying, because for locals, that's the most important thing.  

 

and so what if you don't love the look.  i don't either and i absolutely would have preferred a dome, but here we are.  some posters my not like the esthetics, but it will still be a massive upgrade, but inside and out.  you're acting like there's no upgrade at all.

Somethings are better, yet some things that be even better were dismissed because of cost. Honestly I don't get the thought of no dome in a location like ours. As we saw this past two seasons that severe weather here in Buffalo can affect games.
