Bills!Win!
Poyer was one of my favorite bills. If he joins an afc east rival then he becomes hated

BLUF - it appears that signing bonuses are taxed based on your residency at the time they are paid. So an athlete with residence in florida will not pay tax on a signing bonus. Interesting....they even use a NY example in this article with court cases to support it. Intresting. Im sure NFL players, teams and their agents and CPAs are all over the legalities of htis. When a player has his contract "restructured" it's paid out as a signing bonus. Now we know why all players like them. Thanks for the info. Vegas and Houston currently have the 3rd and 5th most salary cap space. Miami has the 25th most. Just sayin… Miami also has some of the nicest beaches and nightlife in America and Poyer has a wife that's built for that lifestyle. Miami still has a QB under a rookie contract, who if can stay healthy (he probably won’t) will be in a position to overtake the division from us. Their win steak, that had a huge impact on them even sniffing the playoffs were against very bad teams. I don't feel like looking up the win totals. Tua has 1 year left of a "cheap" contract, his cap hit is 23 million in 2024 and the Dolphins don't even know if he is the future QB. Often the high tax teams (CA teams, NYC, ect) come with mitigating factors such as weather, big market, “quality of life”, ect. Buffalo, unfortunately, has the taxes without some of the offsets. Always going to be a challenge to recruit. Completely disagree. Which FAs that we really wanted have we missed out on? According to that logic, why aren’t Miami, the Chargers, and the jets/ giants getting all these great FAs? and Poyer will go wherever he gets the most money. I mean they live near Miami so it would make sense. But it’s a cash grab and I don’t blame him. It was great FA signing, respect the guy a lot, but i trust McDermott and company to find a good S for much, much cheaper.

Well that would be beyond awful. Given where we got Poyer/ Hyde and where they were drafted, safety shouldn’t be a high pick unless you are guaranteeing Polmalu or Ed Reed. Process
Players in FL still pay state taxes in every other state they play in. Sure they will save a decent amount, but it's not like they completely avoid state tax. His comment on the weather, it is what it is and what it always will be. The weather in Bufalo is ****ing miserable 7 months of the year. He's right, we go weeks without seeing the sun. If I was a young multi millionaire with no connection to the city, no way I'd voluntarily play here unless it came with more $$$. That's coming from someone who has lived here me my whole life and won't be leaving anytime soon. It's why we had to give a 34 year old a $120M contract. It's just how it is. That's aging too much, at least for someone seeking a new contract. id give him a 2 year deal if that’s what it takes. I understand at this point it probably won’t happen. I just wish more fans appreciated him a bit more
julian
6 weeks ago it was widely understood Bills wouldn’t be paying an older banged up safety big dollars and most were fine with this roster approach. Now the narrative for some is he wants to play for a contender(MIA lol) and doesn’t want to play for this inept coaching staff. Can’t make this ***** up.

I’ve lived in 7 different cities (for work) since then. Every time I go back to Buffalo, I love it. But I love it because it’s still “home” for me, the people are great and the food is “Buffalo great” (let’s be honest, we have the best Pizza - and one of the places I’ve lived was Hoboken, so I had NYC pizza regularly) but WNY doesn’t have truly excellent cuisine, with few exceptions. I love Buffalo for those reasons. But I go home once a year - for thanksgiving week. And every time I’m reminded of yes the cold, snow, and slush. And none of those bother me too much. Why I’ll never be able to move back is the gray. The gloom. That week in thanksgiving puts me in a funk as the overcast gloomy gray kills me. And that lasts for 75% of the time from early October to march-ish. That said, I’m 43, married, and don’t have tens of millions of dollars. If i was 31 with more money than most and I had no real connection to Buffalo, I’d be calling the Raiders, the Dolphins, the Rams, the Chargers, the 9ers (I was in SF two weeks ago, believe me, it’s not all the 10 blocks of the Tenderloin district that they always show on tv), hell, even the Broncos. He’s still young and despite being married to a monster, has to be considering where we really wants to live and the lifestyle those areas bring. brianthomas
BILLS made their choice of extending Hyde vs Poyer. Now Poyer walks because i can't see us paying top dollar to 2 safeties over 30. If he goes to Miami then so be it. But can you imagine if Miami picks up Bobby Wagner too? What a boost that defense could have.
thenorthremembers
Thankful for Poyer's time here. Hes been a very good player for the team. That said, things like these are the reason I don't cheer for individual players or wear jerseys. In 50 years people will know who the Buffalo Bills are. They will have no clue who Jordan Poyer is. If you don't want to be here...see ya.

Players don't take discounts for any reason. There is no such thing as a player taking a hometown discount. Here's what the man himself said: "Figure out a way," you can guess what he means. He's chasing one last big contract. The Bills understandably don't want to give it to him. On one hand I feel bad for Poyer. No one could ever accuse him of making business decisions in games. You could easily argue that he was underpaid relative to the level of play he gave us in his time here. He might feel a little bitter especially with his wife and his agent constantly in his ear. But by the end of the season you could see that he is slowing down. In the divisional round he was legitimately awful and I think personally responsible for the first two TDs the Bengals scored. Some team with a QB on a rookie deal can afford to pay him more than he should get based on his age. The Dolphins could make sense. For the Bills we have to rebalance the resources spent on offense versus the resources spent on defense. Letting Poyer go at his age is an easy decision in that context, even moreso than Edmunds. T master
Well when your getting ready to retire a lot of them either go to Fl. or Az. & he's closer to the end than the beginning of his career & has been a good player for the Bills but i think it's time to move on start getting the next generation in Buffalo to keep it rolling . Thanks for the memory's Po have fun in your next destination ... GO BILLS !!!!

A good chunk in signing bonus with a fairly small cap hit this year and a playing time clause that could void the 2nd yr.? IDK I'm assuming several teams would easily beat that offer.

Hyde signed a 5-year deal with a 2-year extension and Poyer signed a 4-year deal with a 2-year extension. Hyde will not be on the team after this season. They both were great but it's a dollar thing no matter what some people think. I'm not b-wording you, but this board is contorting itself into pretzels at every little thing.
