Beane has done jack since 2018 in the draft, but he did trade away pick 27 ‘20 for Diggs. I doubt he would have used that on Justin Jefferson. Any thoughts?

Diggs is the second best first rd pick the team has made recently.

have they hit on a singe second rd pick?

Problem is Diggs was the oldest 1st round pick in 2020 (age 26/27).

I wouldn’t necessarily say busts, but they have not drafted high impact players. KC of course has drafted some duds to go along with their hits, but they have gotten impact from various places in the draft.

I give Reid a lot of credit though with the way he fixed that offensive line. They were so bad in the Super bowl vs Tampa so he replaces all five starters, including his franchise LT of ten or so years. He trades for Brown, signs Thuney and drafts Humphrey and Smith in the same draft (Nick Bolton too) and elevates Wylie to a starter. He wasn’t worried about hard feelings. He jettisoned an entire unit in one offseason and fixed it through trades, good drafting, and free agency. This is something McDermott has not been willing to do.

2020 Super Bowl:

LT: Eric Fisher
LG: Stefen Wisniewski

Center: Austin Reiter
RG: Laurent Duvernay-Tardif
RT: Mitchell Schwartz

next season:

Brown, Thuney, Humphrey, Smith, Wylie

....no.....THAT LINE would have won 2020 Super Bowl.  Fisher, Schwartz, Duvernay Tardiff all out.  Reiter started at C....and was the worst graded C in football that year...so the one healthy guy was the weak link.....Mike Remmers was at LT, Wylie at RT, Allegretti at G and Wisneiski, at the other G...and he was injured most of year and was not a starter.

Fishers contract expired, Schwartz had to reitre due to his back injry.  Rieter was released and not signed to an active roster by another team the next year (Saints PS) Dr, was traded to JEts and quickly out of football.  Wisnieski was done also.  KC HAD to rebuild the line...they literally had no line at all.

I WISH that line you posted had been healthy...ugh.

Man without looking, I’m trying to think of the last good Bills second rounder.  We’ve sucked on 2nd rounders since Thurman.  Ford, Basham, Espeneza…..Parella

No. It's realizing that never every team hits home runs on every pick and to get contributions from a few players it's still a success. Apparently you missed the past drafts like 2016 where we got next to nothing except Shaq Lawson.

These drafts yielded next to nothing.  You are bragging on a kicker, a couple back ups,  a #3 WR and a borderline starter.   The Chiefs found more in the last draft alone than we have in the last 3 combined.

Brandon Beane drafted Josh Allen. As a consequence, the Bills are now almost automatically a playoff team, and even a top 8 team.  But it is fair to observe that well into Josh Allen's career we appeared to be stalled.  If you place Allen on the top 24 NFL rosters, those rosters/coaching staffs look just about as good as the Bills (or better if you put him on a few teams like the niners, eagles, chiefs or bengals). (note not saying the chiefs or bengals are better than they are now with Allen, just saying they have stronger non-QB rosters than the Bills).

However Beane has been doing it for the last several years ought to change, if the goal is to win a championship.  Because it seems the current process has gone as far as it can.

Bills have this Offense (or something similar) post draft and my faith will be restored..

Allen

Cook/Hines/Ibrahim

Dawkins/Bates/Morse/Torrence/Wright

Diggs/OBJ/Davis/Shakir/Beasley

Knox/Morris

Free Agency - OBJ

Draft - RD1 Torrence, RD2 Darnell Wright

May require trading our RD3 to move up in RD2 to get Wright, but we get as sure fire as it gets prospects at G and RT.

Day 3 can go all defense, aside from a Mohammed Ibrahim type at RB.

That Offense is on par, or perhaps exceeds, every offense in the NFL.  It’s not unrealistic.
