Yeah.....this game made 2 things perfectly clear about what we are missing in order to win the Super Bowl.  The first is the fact that both of these offensive lines controlled this entire game.  Both teams dictated up front and both defensive lines were non-factors in the game.  We have invested so much into our defensive line and it was proven tonight that no matter how good your defensive line is, if you have a top offensive line, you can do everything you need to do on offense to move the ball and score.  These QBs were barely rushed tonight, let alone touched, and the offenses did whatever they wanted.  The QBs just stood back there and made the plays they wanted to make and they consistently got the push they needed up front when they did run the ball.  Way too many times I caught myself thinking about how Allen has a guy in his face immediately after the snap and has to go into superman mode just to try and make a play work.  Tonight proved just how valuable the guys up front are.....both teams showed it.

And the second thing was obvious as well.  Coaching.  Both offensive staffs, particularly Reid, showed what scheming and adjustments are all about.  Both of these defenses are arguably better than ours, especially in big games, but Reid was getting guys running wide open, especially in close.  We always joke that us guys in the parking lot throwing the football at a tailgate could make some of these throws.  While obviously a lot of that is hyperbole, but tonight I actually think many of us could have thrown those TDs that Mahomes threw.  I mean, there wasn't a defender anywhere near those WRs.  That's scheme.  That's coaching.  We used to get a few like that with Daboll, but this season everything was like pulling teeth.  Nothing was easy.

But yeah.  The game was good (up until that terrible PI call), but the differences between those teams and ours were VERY obvious tonight.  We have a lot of work to do on the offensive line this off season.  At the bare minimum, we need 2 new guards and a tackle.  We need to get some real players up front and not just the turnstiles we have.  If you have the stomach for it, just go back and watch a little bit of the Bengals game.  It won't take you long to see Allen get pressured immediately after the snap because someone on the line basically just misses their blocks.  Happened a ton.  As for coaching, there really isn't much we can do except pray that Dorsey has a light bulb go off because these offenses we saw tonight are schemed night and day better than what we were throwing on the field, especially the second half of the season.

I know the end of the season was disappointing. But i'm amazed at how this board has become almost exclusively Sean McDermott hate posts as of late. The amount of vitriol towards he and the rest of the coaching staff is incredible.

You'll understand in a couple years when he's still around and we're still losing early in the playoffs.

That may or may not be true. What is true however is that neither of them are going anywhere this season. So it's kind of a moot point to harp on. Is this going to be the state of the board all year? Posters talking ish and rooting on their failures in hopes that theyll be gone? Feels really toxic around here right now.

The fact that it is a moot point is exactly what pisses everyone off.  We do the same sh*t every year, with the same people who make the same mistakes.

All the while the Chiefs completely overhaul their OL and retool receivers after trading one of the best away.  Eagles hire a young, aggressive, offensive coach while drafting and WR in top 10 and trading for an addition top 5 WR.  Bengals over haul their OL, draft WR and then draft another one right after.  49ers trade for Christian McCaffery, we trade for Hines and use him 4 offensive plays.

So yes, not only do neither of them go anywhere, they all just stay a do the same dumb stuff doubling down on freaking defense every year.  They learn nothing, say nothing and we all are to just trust the process.  Ok 👍.

No doubt that Mahomes is a stud. But he did NOTHING tonight that Allen can’t do. Absolutely nothing. But he has Reid. And Allen doesn’t.

Mahomes has never done anything Allen can’t do, but he does A LOT of stuff that Allen chooses not to do.

They trade for Toney on a rookie contract for multiple years.

We trade for Hines on a bloated RB contract.

They worked Toney into a legit contributor role by the playoffs .. and that’s with Toney missing time.

We relegated Hines to KR/PR and a package of 4 plays that never worked.

Pretty much sums up how Reid and Veach build their team compared to Beane and McDermott.

They also moved a superstar for assets to accelerate their roster reload.  Imagine my surprise when we re-sign Edmunds to a massive contract and then let Oliver walk for nothing next year.

their GM is better than Bean.  That’s a major difference.

Pacheco in the what 7th round? Cook in the 2nd? I'm not drafting RBS high ever again....Shore up the lines.

The strategy by McB should've been start building a dominant OL in 2018.  But noooooooo....let's go hard for 3 straight years on defensive busts. Then when we do finally find 1 good olineman (Teller), we piss him away.  Meanwhile our incredible scouting department finds gems like Ford, Doyle, Brown....

I have been thinking post-Super Bowl that maybe it was a mistake to elevate Dorsey to OC.  After last season, the expectation was that we would be a Super Bowl contender this season, possibly even a favorite to get there.  In that situation, was the right decision to install a rookie OC to do the play calling for a head coach with a background on defense?  Doesn't seem like a wise decision in hindsight.  It may have been upsetting to Josh, but the right approach would have been to hire an OC with experience.  To be fair, I don't know who was available last offseason and we did have Mike Shula in some kind of a role, but our offense was really uneven this season and not particularly creative.

Stings to read because it’s true.

different time,  but MCNabb was pretty productive

And he had the unfortunate luck of going against Brady and the Pats even though Philly played a good game and could've won had a few plays gone differently.

Because we were all mostly convinced Dorsey was a Dabs clone.  As the season went on, we quickly realized that wasn't the case.  He's obviously not going anywhere, so all we can hope it that he learns how to tame Josh and play situational football.

Would Beane be here? Remember, McDermott was the HC before Beane was signed. Would we have landed a top flight GM?

Would we have lost enough to have the pick that was Mahomes of drafted Allen?

Chiefs traded up to get Mahomes. There’s no reason to believe he wouldn’t have traded up if he had the Bills in a similar spot.

If we had Reid, would that have happened? Would we have been bad enough to draft in that spot that year, or maybe we would have drafted higher or lower?

Could we have signed Reid?  Maybe.  Would he have wanted to be here? We missed many great head coaches over the years, so have many other teams.  What about drafting Troupe over Gronk?  We, like many other teams, missed on drafting great players.

To get to the gist of the original post, would we have 2 Super Bowls if Reid was our coach?  Maybe.  Maybe we’d be the worst team ever.  A lot of thongs happened right for him to be the coach he is in KC.  Wouldn’t have necessarily happened that way if he was our coach.

The Chiefs were drafting 27th when Mahomes was taken.

Doesnt Bieniemy call the plays? Reid repeatedly gave him credit.

No. Reid calls the plays. He was giving Bieniemy credit because there is a mutual parting of the ways coming and Andy wants everyone to know it isn't performance related.
