ChevyVanMiller Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 I came across this clip recently and have no memory of this play whatsoever. It’s a phenomenal fake, though. I can’t believe that they wasted it in a preseason game. 2 Quote
dma0034 Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 It was the Hall of Fame game years ago 3 Quote
gonzo1105 Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 While a great fake punt, it’s a dumb play. It’s in the first preseason game, the Titans had a lead and no one was even close to playing their starters. Just seemed like a wasted good punt fake to me Some will say that they put it on tape so teams had to prepare for it but they never ran it again that year. Could have been they weren’t sure if it would work so try it in a non important game. 1 1 Quote
Franco_92 Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 This shows up randomly in my Facebook feed once a week. It's a nice play but it's bizarre that a hall of fame game play 15 yrs ago continues to get attention Quote
RoyBatty is alive Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 I vividly recall that play/game. I love the old AFL uniforms right down to the refs in red jerseys. 1 Quote
MrEpsYtown Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 (edited) There are some true garbage players on that field for the Bills on that clip. Edited February 7, 2023 by MrEpsYtown 5 Quote

They're at the 40, so it's a 57 yd FG attempt, or it's a punt that likely goes into the EZ. I'd argue in a regular season game the punter would likely get crushed if they ran that. 1 Quote
Old Coot Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 It's a variation on Pop Warner's old hidden ball play. You may read about it here: https://www.profootballhof.com/news/2018/10/the-trick-play-originates-with-a-pop/ and see it executed by a high school team in this clip: https://fanbuzz.com/high-school/concord-hidden-ball-trick/ 1 Quote
somnus00 Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Considering they got away with the music city forward lateral a few years before, I think it was kind of a 🍆 move to pull this kind of special teams play. But whatever. Quote
MJS Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Dang. Save it for the regular season. What were they thinking? Who cares if it works in the preseason? Quote
Long Suffering Fan Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Curse you. I watched the clip and ended up seeing Dick Jauron's face. Now my nightmares will return. 1 3 Quote
GustheDog33 Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 That definitely had the look of something they drew up in May and then tried once in practice "just to see" and looked better than they thought. The next conversation was "No way that works against another team's punt return unit, right? Right?" "Well, we have the HoF game..." I'd be willing to bet there were some friendly wagers amongst the coaching staff about whether it would work or not. 1 Quote

Dan Darragh Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 Jeff Fisher was a useless coach. What a dumb move, in a pre season game with his backup punter and referees dressed like clowns. Quote

As many others have said, its a weird flex that the Titans decided to try that in a hof game. Quote
