Lieutenant Aldo Raine Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 (edited) Multiple reports hinting Keenan Allen as a potential cap casualty due to Chargers cap situation. Would be a solid WR opposite of Diggs, having two of the best route runners in the NFL. Probably will get paid more than we want to pay if he's released, but an intriguing situation nonetheless. https://theathletic.com/4154672/2023/02/06/chargers-keenan-allen-salary-cap-casualty/ Edited February 6, 2023 by Lieutenant Aldo Raine 2 1 7 1 Quote

Process Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Yuck. Allen is solid. We need a playmaker. Quote

nucci Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Just now, Lieutenant Aldo Raine said: Prior to this year, he missed two games in five years. Not advocating one way or the other, just putting it out there. Yep, He's a really good player. 2 Quote
Big Blitz Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Draft the Center from Minnesota Sign Keenan Allen. If they could pull off these 2 things and only these 2 things, the off season would be a massive success. 7 1 Quote
MJS Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 He is already 30. Yeah, we might be able to get a couple of good seasons out of him. I'd rather have Jakobi Meyers, though. Or a high drafted rookie. 2 Quote
TheBrownBear Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Allen is really polished. He'd be a great signing for the right money. Quote
Mr. WEO Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Bills have the same cap space (less than zero) as the Chargers. Why wouldn't he be a "casualty" here? 2 2 Quote

Lieutenant Aldo Raine Posted February 6, 2023 Author Posted February 6, 2023 Here are his stats for reference from https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/A/AlleKe00.htm. Yes his hamstring caused missed games this year, but he was on pace for a Pro Bowl type year based on his 2017-2021 run. Again, not advocating one way or the other, just putting information out there if we are seeking an alternative to a WR opposite of Diggs. Allen is a known as one of the best route runners in the NFL and would help reduce double teaming of Diggs. 1 Quote
MrEpsYtown Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 He's gonna go to KC and play with Mahomes, replace JuJu. Quote
Southern_Bills Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 I would sign him. Don't need him to be a star, just need him to be a solid #2. Also we need our coaches and medical staff to manage him in a way where he is healthy for the playoffs. I felt that was the plan for Von, it just sadly went south unexpectedly. Quote
BillsVet Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 The Bills created a situation where they spent liberally on UFAs, then didn't draft a replacement for those types, and now find themselves with cap issues and few options. WR is a perfect example. When they signed Brown in Beasley to 3 and 4 year deals respectively, they should have simultaneously planned to replace them. But they didn't, and we're back to needing WR help. Or, they'll sign Emanuel Sanders to a 1 year deal and then just assume Davis will step up. Really poor personnel planning. Need to start drafting better...on offense especially. No to a veteran UFA who is looking at a moderate sized contract at 2 or 3 years unless they're going to draft someone high as well who can step in if the veteran falters. 3 1 Quote
Airseven Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 They're not going to block Davis. Far more likely to draft a WR to develop and compete. 1 Quote

Because he has a $15.5 million salary with the Chargers in 2023, plus some prorated cap bonuses for a total cap charge in 2023 of $21.7 million for the Chargers. If he becomes a cap casualty and the Chargers cut him (not saying they will but whatever), they save $14.8 million in cap space in 2023. Allen becomes an unrestricted free agent who will. at the age of 30, presumably sign a new contract for a cap charge much lower than the $21.7 million the Chargers are strapped with. 5 Quote

I get why the Chargers want him off the books. I don't see how he signs anywhere for less than 15 mil a year. Quote
BBills_88 Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Can we stop with the old band aides and continue to draft younger and healthier WR's 2 Quote
