By “creepiness” do you mean this decent man’s propensity to put his hands on women? A personal trait he assured us all he would be working on changing?

AFTER LAST NIGHT

by Scott Johnson

I thought the flight of the Chinese spy balloon across the United States was a national embarrassment, but it was nothing compared to President Biden’s State of the Union performance last night. I thought he hit the high point with his congratulation of Kevin McCarthy for ascending to the Speakership in the first few seconds of his speech. The speed of the descent varied, but it was downhill all the way from there. That means it was a long, long way downhill.

The Washington Post has a useful set of corrections on subjects other than those I mention below (the link is to the accessible version published by Jewish World Review). David Harsanyi adds a stylish touch in his Federalist column “Don’t Fall For Joe Biden’s Economic Fairy Tale.”

Biden wants to “finish the job” he has started. The phrase appears in the text of his speech 12 times. I think that has an ominous ring. Finishing the job will finish us off.

Regarding the Chinese spy balloon, he gave us nothing. It’s apparently no big deal, but it did fit weirdly with his comments about China: “Before I came to office, the story was about how the People’s Republic of China was increasing its power and America was falling in the world. Not anymore.” Shouldn’t someone have bothered to rework that passage?

He gave us angry old man Biden shouting for reasons known only to himself.

He gave us phony old man Biden with his obnoxious stage whisper.

He slurred his words like a drunken sailor.

The White House has posted the text of his remarks “as prepared for delivery” so you might be able to ascertain what he was attempting to say. Both as prepared and as delivered it was a bizarre speech.

And Biden gave us the standard Democratic/democratic demagoguery of the current screwball variety. To take just one example, Democrats have “invested” massively in “climate change.” They are going to change the climate, or increase their control over our lives. Something like that.

Abortion, advances in LGBTQ orthodoxy, price controls on medicine, taxes on the rich and famous, “infrastructure” (say it fast three times), more spending like the sailors whose speech he emulated — all are on the horizon. Woo hoo!

SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS SUMMED UP THE STATE OF THE UNION BETTER IN ONE LINE THAN BIDEN DID IN AN HOUR AND A HALF:

Despite all these failures — or in some cases, if you’re a Democrat, smashing culture war successes — Americans were treated to an evening-long, real-time revisionist take on our state of affairs from President Joe Biden. It was long. And it was ultimately a lie.

Yet in one single sentence of her response speech, Arkansas’ first-term Republican Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders summed up the state of our union better than Biden did in nearly an hour and a half:

While you reap the consequences of their failures, the Biden administration seems more interested in woke fantasies than the hard reality Americans face every day.

For an increasing number of Americans, everyday life in 2023 is precisely that: a hard reality.

Talk to any dedicated nurse who slaved through the height of the pandemic and was thanklessly fired for declining an experimental shot.

Ask any professor who was dragged through the mud for refusing to instill racial division or deny basic biology.

Speak to any parents who religiously pled with their school board to keep pornographic books out of their kids’ library and boys out of their daughters’ locker rooms.

“Biden and the Democrats have failed you,” Huckabee Sanders summed it up. “They know it. And you know it.”

Exit quotes: “‘The dividing line in America is no longer between right or left. The choice is between normal or crazy,”

and “At 40, I’m the youngest governor in the country. At 80, he’s the oldest president in American history.”

So i'm going awakened (unwoke). Sarah is less attractive than my dogs.  We didn't start the culture war?

Well, to chime in on when it MAY be appropriate to comment on someone’s looks and when it definitely is not:

- when playing the role of political pundit. I hear some of this “Nikki Haley is attractive” stuff and how that makes her a more appealing candidate. She is, kind of a moderately attractive not overdone woman of her age. So it would be fair to say Sarah’s looks work the opposite way.
- when talking about ridiculously overdone cosmetic (or cosmetic procedures) a politician inflicted on him/herself. The “own goal” thing. Trump’s ridiculous spray on tan and combover. Biden’s teeth/hair transplant or whatever is left of it today. Pelosi’s eye thing. Or Marjorie Taylor Greene’s whatever-the-hell-that-was-supposed-to-be outfit. Or Kyrsten Sinema’s “look at me” styles. But not McConnell’s, umm, turtle face (I read somewhere that there’s a genetic thing behind that). And not Sarah’s face, which is just … her face. The one she was born with.

So those are my rules. I think they’re pretty good rules to live by.

You didn't read the article.

I read the article. It is fair overall, but infected by political spin.
The facts:  inflation spiraled to levels not seen for 40 years under Biden. But inflation has been coming down steadily for at least the last 6 months. Technically he said that inflation is coming down, and that’s correct. What he didn’t say is inflation is coming down after reaching a four decade high. So …. Spin from Biden, spin from his critics.

I have worked in an incredibly regulated field for 25 years.  I have yet to see the federal government make anything more efficient, but I trust you Len, and hope that you are right about it being able to be fixed.

My bad on that one, I didn’t actually punctuate my point.

It can be fixed actuarily, and with oversight, but likely will never be fixed unless it’s privatized and revenue/costs/expenseetc justified.  That doesn’t happen in govt and as I have said previously, for all the complaints about health insurance costs pre-Obamacare and private health insurance, nothing happened in that field without the involvement of govt regulators.  The health insurance sector is heavily regulated, as I’m sure you know.

In the end, I’d think the American people don’t really want an appropriately priced and reasonably managed health insurance plan, those favoring the govt take-over just want the illusion of one.

I loved when Biden directly called out that scumbag Mike Lee over social security. That made him squirm like the little weasel he is.

Yep. The White House did its (political) job there, obviously ready with the old video of Mike Lee calling for an end to social security. It was all over the news networks this morning. And Mike Lee stupidly walked into the trap by calling Biden a liar on that one.
(I’ve mentioned before that I think we should be looking at how to reform social security, so I wouldn’t blame Lee if he had reacted honestly and admitted that he believes we need to take a hard look at it now. But he behaved like a politician who has just been confronted with past statements he wishes everyone had forgotten)

Sums it up nicely. Republicans don’t care about actual issues, just fear porn meant to terrify your 78 year old grandpa into thinking he’s gonna have to wear drag.

Tell us more about Biden lying about the GOP taking social security from the elderly?
