BeastMode54 Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 Whether he is here next year or not, the guy has had 7 concussions, and we haven't drafted a center since Eric Woods. I know LG, RG and RT are positions that get talked about as far as upgrading. But Center has to be a high priority 4 2 Quote

Yet I'd like us to trade down maybe in round 3 and pick up a few more picks. 2 Quote
VaMilBill Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 He’s still playing well. Keep him this year and then we should move on the following year. Too many holes to fill this year without him moving on 1 4 Quote
NewEra Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 (edited) It’s a pretty terrible center class imo. if he retires, hopefully we can move bates to C and add 2 OGS. we really need Morse back imo. Edited January 30, 2023 by NewEra 2 4 1 Quote
MrEpsYtown Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 (edited) I think he stays until he decides to go. He is a high level player and an important cog in the OL. I think they should extend him actually. I don't think these guys are interesting in drafting a pure center. They value that versatility. Mitch Morse was a LT at Mizzou who moved to center as a pro. Same for Ryan Bates, a LT at PSU who moved to guard whose best position is probably center. Greg Van Roten was a LT at UPenn who moved to guard as a pro and the Bills had him cross train at center. They had Ike Boettger learn to snap in training camp a few years ago. Just find the best linemen you can find and figure it out. Edited January 30, 2023 by MrEpsYtown 2 Quote

thenorthremembers Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 After next year. Draft his replacement and have him ready to start at center in 2024. You can save 8.5 million on the cap which you will likely need if you get cap space this year doing restructures. 1 1 Quote
Albany,n.y. Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 Bates' best position is allegedly C. That's a big reason why they matched. 1 1 Quote
Buffalo_Stampede Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 (edited) I’m ready to draft a center in the 2/3 round range and start him day 1. Happens a lot. Or move Bates and start rookie OGs. Got to sacrifice with the cap. Got to hit on rookie OL this year. Edited January 30, 2023 by Buffalo_Stampede 2 Quote
corta765 Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 So if you think there is a guy in the draft that can be your guy long term and you think Bates can do fine for a year or two as you grow that player then move on from Morse OR ask for contract restructure. I do not disagree he is older despite playing well and another concussion could be it, but you can't just up and cut him considering how important he has been for Josh. We all remember the glorious Russ Bodine experiment! Quote

nedboy7 Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 Depends on how Mitch feels about playing next year. Quote
Airseven Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 Morse has been great, but regardless of a retirement decision, it's time to move on. Cut him for $5M cap savings. Replace with Bates, a free agent, or early draft pick. Quote

Boatdrinks Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 Very solid player , concussions a great concern. Better have a replacement waiting in the wings; his next could be his last. Quote
stlbills13 Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 You could argue that retirement is the best decision for all parties involved. The Bills need the cap space and even though Morse is good, he's probably not worth his contract. Morse's own health is top priority and an 8th (documented) concussion seems like a long-term quality of life issue. Even the NFL is probably concerned about his (and everyone's) concussion history. 1 2 Quote
schoolhouserock Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 Have to hang onto Morse. Don’t create any new holes. He’s the perfect guy to have in the O-line room when the Bills (hopefully) invest multiple draft picks into the O-line. 1 Quote
Process Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 Replace Brown and Roger this off-season. Dawkins and Mitch in 2024. Quote

John from Riverside Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 I think that the Mitch Morse replacement is going to be Ryan Bates That is just my opinion What they need to do is draft some quality guards that fit the office it’s guys that can pass protect well and are mobile 2 Quote
