They spent 5 out of their last 7 1st or 2nd round picks on defense. The only 1st round picks they used for offense, was to trade for diggs. They need to get better on the side of the ball that they are paying their star players on. second highest scoring Offense in the league you mean? 4 minutes ago, John from Riverside said: Nothing else does matter we like winning we like winners. If you don’t win it regardless of your record all you need to be sent packing line up the next guy. Years in and coming up embarrassingly short in the playoffs each year. Quote
Eastport bills Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 Beane is a competent GM. His positives of moving up to draft Josh and trading for Diggs is the reason we are winning division titles. The problem is the roster is not improving year by year . The same can be said for the coaching staff. I still believe he can get it done but now with limited cap space, the pressure is ramped up to improve this team. These GMs can go from geniuses to the hot seat in a hurry. 1 Quote
Don Otreply Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 Yes all GMs make mistakes, BUT, if they don’t learn from those mistakes, they lead their teams into the abyss and then get fired…, only to do the same thing to another team…, retread syndrome, 1 Quote

SACTOBILLSFAN Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 Speaking of mistakes, thank Christ the Bills held onto draft picks that Beane can waste instead of acquiring CMC. 1 1 Quote

Top 2 defense you mean that gave up 30 1st downs in a divisional round and could barely win against a 3rd string QB in wildcard round? You think the offensive line grade that they give the bills is because the offensive line is good or because Allen makes them not look as bad as they really are? Or what if they strike out, which plenty of Beane's picks have done based on track record? What if you draft based on biggest needs and those picks turn into all pros? Even if they don't turn into all pros and just become serviceable players, you still addressed the need. You can play the what if game with any pick, but addressing the team's biggest needs should be the GM's primary focus heading into any draft. Edited January 29, 2023 by Billz4ever Quote

Very next pick was Justin Jefferson. Reagor is no longer with the Eagles. Jefferson is one of the best two or three WR in the league. Maybe the best. Yet, Eagles are in NFC Championship a couple of years later. Beane's been far from perfect and we all know the list trading Wyatt Teller, picking Ford over Metcalf and A.J. Brown, Basham instead of Humphrey, Bernard instead of Parham, hell even Oliver instead of Simmons. Some of that is hindsight, some of it is not. Point is, none of those "mistakes" are fatal. This is, however, an enormously consequential off-season for Beane and the team. He needs to make rebuild of the offensive line number one priority (same as KC did after Super Bowl loss to Tampa Bay), establish a legitimate running game that doesn't depend on Allen, somehow introduce flexibility into a defense that has grown way too stale and hope we can avoid serious injuries. Not saying it will happen but there is certainly hope that he can fix what is obviously broken. This was the hope at this time last year. Quote

And they put in Benford a 6th rounder over 1st rounder Elam. They had no one else to play. He choose Peterman to start that season over Allen. And then decided to put Allen in because it was Peterman. You’re actually helping me prove my point. 1 Quote

He's probably going to have to break that habit this season because sticking with the status quo on the O-line is not going to cut next year. Signing another $6M dollar bust like Saffold in free agency isn't the answer either. Quote

Draft offensive line first 2 picks and deuce Vaughn in the 3rd. #1 focus this off season needs to be offensive line. Quote

But even if they do, are they actually going to let two rookie offensive lineman be out there protecting their franchise QB? History says otherwise. We shall see. 1 Quote

Based on the grades our line got this season and actually watching them in action, I can't honestly see rookies doing any worse. Edited January 29, 2023 by Billz4ever 1 1 Quote
