Cameron Brate might be a cap casualty, he could also be a good 2nd TE here as I can't see him costing a lot of cap money toss in wouldn't count against the UFA loss/gain formula. Also he'd be cheaper than a WR. Thoughts?

They don’t use their top 5 paid TE enough, why worry about who TE2 is?

because with a lack of quality slot WR we might look to move the chains other ways.

Are we going to do this with every player that gets cut from here until TC?

McDermott and Frazier don't change their defense.. why should we change what we do every offseason?

it's a football discussion group and everyone wants to turn over every stone...so yes.

historically, as well, yes.

If we stuck to discussing players all offseason that would be a huge step up from the usual topics that dominate between Feb and June.

What's the point of signing a second TE? Do we really think Dorsey can figure out how to use both?

The last two offseasons we've signed a vet #2 TE in the spring just to end up cutting them before the season starts.

No. We have $625K in dead cap this year for the failed OJ Howard.

Upgrade WR instead

And I believe Tampa gets a comp pick for that too.  Incredible.

As a receiving TE I've liked what I've seen from Morris. Would have liked to see more of him. And Shakir. Hines, etc...I'll say this for McD, he was right to sit Bernard (outside of a few ST assignments). I think Bernard was 100% a McD pick and is a good illustration of how limited this HC is and how things will continue to suffer under the mantra of the process. No doubt intangibles are important but only when in connection with some kind of actual talent.

It's a point, although if he's a "cap casualty" in Tampa, I don't know how we afford him here.

So it's kind of interesting, I read an article on Beane.  Basically as a young multi-sport athlete, he was always under-sized and epitomized the "it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog" mantra.  McDermott was cast in the same mold (albeit, with a more restrained temper) as a DB.

I wish I could find the link, IMHO it sort of shed some light on why Beane and McDermott may over-value under-sized players with "good work ethic" "good background" etc.
