Warriorspikes51 Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 this is BULL. Why was he ruled out of the WC the other day and now suddenly ruled out for next week too? Why not just say he's week to week and we'll see 3 Quote

dollars 2 donuts Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 (edited) And before some of you wise-***es jump all over us for being a little bit gloom and doom about both Hyde and Hamlin not be able to play next week against Higgins, Chase and Boyd go do a little history research and take a look at what the defensemen injury bugaboo did to the 2005-06 Buffalo Sabres and the almost dream season. A freaking Stanley Cup winning silver platter which the Sabres current GM knows about all too well as he benefited greatly from it. Edited January 13, 2023 by dollars 2 donuts Quote

Sure it's important for him to get some practice reps in as soon as he can which will help next year but I feel like any practice reps he takes away from guys like Marlowe, Madsen, etc are more detrimental to the team Guys, it's a 21-day practice window for a reason. Players who have been on IR have a legit need to work their bodies back into football shape. That's real, just the impacts these guys take landing on the ground and rolling and getting up again when they aren't actually smashing into someone or being smashed takes some adjustment. I haven't talked to a football player about this, we have some guys here who played they can confirm or deny. The closest analogy I have is a friend who fights in the SCA (society of creative anachronism). That's the medieval recreation group that dons actual re-creation armor and, as he puts it, "hits each other with sticks". He describes how when you start fighting, you get hit and each blow you take, even a non-disaabling blow to your shield, sends a disabling wave of pain through you. As you keep fighting, your perception of "normal" pain shifts and the same blow is accepted by your body as "OK, not a problem" you're able to follow through and maintain your guard and carry on your body control. It even kind of revs you up in a weird way (that's the Josh Allen "I need a little contact") 27 minutes ago, TheBrownBear said: Is this true? Who knows. Hopefully he is back for the championship games. Quote

I hadn't read that anywhere. I was assuming the he was put in the 21 day window since he was completely cleared to play. That's the way the reporting made it seem a few days ago. I knew he'd been wearing the red jersey, but I thought it was just because he was working his way back from the lengthy absence. If he hasn't been cleared for contact, then it seems that placing him in the 21 day activation window was, at best, a Hail Mary by the Bills, and it's really much ado about nothing as for our hopes of seeing him play this postseason. Hyde said it in his interview after his first practice, that "it wasn't up to him if he plays, it's up to his doctors". The only way I can interpret that is they cleared him to practice, not to play at this point. Similar thing to Tre White (though hopefully, not as prolonged); he was cleared to start practicing, not to play. I think it is, in some sense, a Hail Mary. It's saying if we get through the next two games and Poyer (playing on a torn meniscus in his knee) or Dean Marlow can't go, there may be a proven alternative ready to rock. If Hyde doesn't start practicing now, there's no good alternative what with Hamlin out. I may be totally dissing on Jaquan Johnson and Cam Lewis but nothing I've seen leads me to believe they could hold up against a top, multi-dimensional team. So Hyde playing in late January isn’t something that has never been done. I thought 6 months minimum. 3 months seems to be the minimum. I stand corrected. 1 2 Quote
Straight Hucklebuck Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 So Hyde won't play at the 12th day of the 21 day window. But the 19th day of the window he'd be good to go? It's that fine of a line? Quote

There isnt a ton of quantifiable medical facts or data to back it up, but anyone who has played a contact sport knows there is a HUGE difference between wind conditioning and hitting/contact conditioning. Hyde could be able to run a marathon right now, but one quarter of hitting with no prior contact will destroy him. It's partly why we see all these injuries (across all teams) now that teams dont hit as much (or at all) through Training Camp and practices. Quote

The point is they seemed to be overly cautious. Maybe this week Hyde practices with the red jersey and maybe they give him another week without it for his body to get used to hitting before rushing into anything. The fact that he is even back practicing shows it's a different situation but the Bills have shown to be more cautious than we would have expected Quote
