The longer this goes Hopkins loses bargaining power but it seems he doesn’t want big money anyways. Edited April 20, 2023 by Buffalo_Stampede 1

TBBills Fan Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 Which team should be making the biggest push for DeAndre Hopkins? It should be Buffalo. General manager Brandon Beane is never afraid, which is why I love him. At age 30, DeAndre Hopkins still has a ton of gas left in the tank. Limited to nine games by suspension and injury last season, Nuk still caught 64 passes for 717 yards and three touchdowns. And that was on a disastrous Cardinals team! Hopkins, Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis catching passes from the great Josh Allen in a Super Bowl-or-bust season? Yes, please! https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-burning-questions-what-s-next-for-lamar-jackson-who-should-be-drafted-no-1-o 2

That's why this doesn't make sense. I don't think it's the trade compensation holding this back, it's the fact that nobody wants to pay him that much. At some point he is going to have to decide if he wants to play for Arizona or if he wants to make less money. And Arizona is going to have to decide if they want any kind of trade compensation in which case they will have to eat part of his contract to make it work I guess you need to price out DHop. As others mentioned OBJ just got $15M and he should be less than DHop (more question marks). According to Spotrac average salaries, with DJ Moore at $20M, Terry McLaurin at $22M, Godwin/M Williams/A Cooper all at $20M. DHop's contract does not look out of line to me, and I believe DHop said he wasn't looking for a raise. 2

Also, watching Hyatt's tape....he is actually a decent route runner...he just hasn't been asked to run a vast route tree. But he shows subtle moves on deep patterns that takes DB's out of the play. He also shows deceptive feet at the top of a route. He can take a slant the distance. I don't buy his 4.4 combine time. On tape he is 4.29-4.33. Especially after 15-20 yards he just rockets past everyone. He is also more physical and elusive underneath than given credit for. He has shown stiff arms, tackle breaking and good change of direction plays. With Allen's arm....we could literally just chuck it up 60 yards deep to Hyatt 3-5 times per game Gabe Davis is already our Hyatt. Hyatt might have a higher ceiling, but he's not stepping into a vacant role/overtaking Gabe. We better get OL to give Josh time. Maybe Gabe, and Diggs, would actually look much better without having to keep Knox and/or Cook into chip on almost every play. Schematically,we are going to face: 1. Jets type of cover 3/4 & strong 4 man rush: we've countered by keeping Knox and/or RB to block or chip. We need to get better at G/T to avoid this 2. Dolphins/Chiefs aggressive 5 or 6 man rushes. It's OK/needed to keep in extra blockers, but we're missing the slot/quick WR who can get fast separation Hyatt doesn't improve us against either option. Maybe next year, if Gabe is gone. Gabe struggles on #2, this is why we need a Zay Flowers/JSN type.

BillsFanForever19 Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 (edited) We're back on this. I cannot stress this enough - it's either Hopkins or a 1st. If we trade for Hopkins, we aren't drafting a WR in the 1st. If we Draft a WR in the 1st, we won't be trading for Hopkins. With Diggs and Davis (who isn't going anywhere this year and will not be demoted any further than #3 no matter how much some fans want it), Harty, Shakir, and Sherfield - there's room for just 1 WR on the top end. Maybe they Draft a WR later in the Draft as a developmental guy and still trade for Hopkins. But they aren't doing both a 1st and Hopkins. Zero chance. There's too many other positions that need filled. And you don't spend a 1st Round Pick at WR to be the 3rd or 4th WR on the Outside for years to come. Edited April 21, 2023 by BillsFanForever19 1 2

It's not just about a 40 time, and doubt Hyatt is converting many more of the deep passes (yes, yes the Jets game). Point is our offense isn't lacking a deep threat WR. Harty, albeit smaller size, offers more speed as well. Unlike you, I see Hyatt as a boom/bust prospect. Very good deep route guy, limited otherwise.

Yup, Davis has a top 5 yards per catch AVG like 3 years running. Part of the reason why his catch % always looks awful. 1 1

Agree. @Warriorspikes51 thinks we are building a fantasy football WR room. not directed at you, but in general: 1. We should be looking for complimentary skillets, to improve the Wr room....quick separation/Rac. 2. Having 2 #1 Wrs is a luxury we can't afford, unless we find one in the draft. 3. Not sure why Dhop is still the discussion/desire. Anyone who watched the Cincy game, and season last year in general, should realize our OL play has to improve. RT should be a high priority, but also not overspending on WRs. We can use that future cap on improving the OL 1 2

Seems like he’s getting very close to becoming a distraction to the franchise-wide foundation, not rent-a-team philosophy, that the Bills have been trying to build. It's all well intentioned. Miller grew up in the NBA player recruitment era. We are starting to see more of that in the NFL. Guys talking about getting together and building a super team. The Rams were the best example. I think Von really wants this. Perhaps it has some elements of attention seeking. Maybe he wants people to know he was part recruiting process. Again, I think it's well intentioned and I like that our players are trying to get other players interested. It's exciting to have a team which seems to have been the total opposite of that for 20+ years being somewhere players want to go to win. 1

That was get Poyer at a discount, let Edmunds walk, and trade Oliver. It is still a possibility. DHop is in the discussion because he would improve the team immediately. There is more than one way to improve a team, and this route is still possible. It would also make the Bills an incredibly exciting team to watch. 3 1

It needs to be a clean ball right to the numbers MOST of the time.
