LewPort71
Thanks for this. We were at this game and you could hear a pin drop at the Ralph. 1
muppy
I remember the #85 shirts that were sold after his injury just to represent him as best we could at that time. When he subsequently went on the Oprah Winfrey show looking so Great after his recovery it was AMAZING Dr Cappuccino was the Man who saved his life and enabled he to recover 100%

I was at that game and have sent encouragement and followed Kevin Everett fairly closely. See this recent article after Damar Hamlin was hurt: https://billswire.usatoday.com/2023/01/05/damar-hamlin-injury-kevin-everett-buffalo-bills/ “Everett, now 40, is able to walk but he can’t jog or run. He endures frequent pain, for which he takes medication, and will for the rest of his life.” 1

I more was referring to his ability to even walk and sit with Oprah when we all had feared the worst when it happened. I still say Dr Cappuccini saved him from paralysis. Such a bad injury was bound to have adverse long term effects
Saxum
Wikipedia article neglects to mention that he was given special treatment on the field, treatment not given before, from doctor whose research was funded by Ralph Wilson and decreases severity of neurological damage. Maybe writer was part of "Ralph is cheap" club and did not want to include those facts. 1

And, if I recall correctly, the Bills were the only team at the time to have such a specialist (and then needed equipment) at every game. I hope all teams do that now.

Mr. Wilson was also adamant that Everett be kept on the active roster until he had his full three year tenure to qualify for his pension and post-career medical benefits.

He insisted Kevin Everett call him uncle and was there to help or just talk. Kevin Everett has always spoken very well about him. 1

Did he push the league into having a large medical trauma staff at every game? If so, then Damar may owe his life to Ralph's actions.

What I remember is he pushed having ready equipment and staff needed to ensure any player would reach hospital alive but not remember if trauma was specified. It would be nice if NFL films would revisit this. "Everett to Hamlin, progress of on field treatment" would be a good start.

Saxum
At our Bills Backers group annual tailgate post Kevin Everett injury one of the 50/50 raffles was set up to donate for helping Kevin Everett. We sent it to our Bills Backers contact and received a letter from Bills organization thanking for donation signed by Ralph Wilson (not auto-sign).
