ArtVandalay Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 (edited) I can't stand Booger, especially when he first started. Recently he been better obviously putting in work on his TV craft. Last night he won me over completely. No fake tears, no making it any himself or his feelings. Just straight up truth and empathy. Edited January 3, 2023 by ArtVandalay 1 Quote
PetermansRedemption Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 (edited) I also thought Booger did a great job with everything. I thought ESPN should have just thrown on a re-run of some football game they had on file. I didn’t understand why they kept throwing it to the studio and asking the same questions, showing the same images, rehashing the same information. C.Biscuit97 Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Yeah, they did great in a very uncomfortable situation. Quote

But last night, he was moving. His comments from the studio were emotional, heartfelt and understated. I think he wanted to cry and so did I. What a mensch. I thought Ryan Clark was incredible. 1 3 Quote
Irv Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 ESPN did a great job under the horrible circumstances. Quote
Over 29 years of fanhood Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Shefter should have talked less, the rest handled the situation with class and Sincerity. Also suspect they had some additional feeds of the chaos that thankfully didn’t air. 1 Quote

I know it doesn't happen often, but we've seen ambulances on the field before (think Kevin Everett for one). Booger certainly carried the broadcast. I think we saw one when Dane Jackson got hurt. 1 Quote

We've all seen it plenty of times. Now, CPR? That's something none of us have seen on an NFL field before, that I know of. Maybe he just meant the entire ordeal was something he hasn't seen before, not just the ambulance. Quote
Man with No Name Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 booger and Clark really shined. as others have said, booger really found his niche because he sucked in the mnf booth. schefter maybe wasn't great but you could see that he was legitimately shaken. great job by everybody overall. we all forget these are all humans and none of us are perfect Quote

Booger said what needed to be said, but Van Pelt and Clark were amazing given the circumstances I totally agree and poorly tried to convey this in another thread last night. Quote
wppete Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Booger was great. He was real and heartfelt. 1 Quote

I understand why you might think that, but I think they made the right call. Even if it was painful and awkward at times. I think staying with it was the most respect they could pay, it really put everything into perspective that the only thing that mattered was Damar. Quote

Thought SVP did a very good job as well Steve, I can’t remember whether it was Clark or not, but it went something like this, “24…When I was 24 I didn’t even think I could die.” How we are in our youth…my goodness that just hits so close to home on how blindsided by this we are and and how it is for those young men. Dan Darragh Posted January 4, 2023 Author Posted January 4, 2023 There's a nice and very complimentary piece about the ESPN coverage in The Athletic today (paywall): https://theathletic.com/4054041/2023/01/03/damar-hamlin-espn-coverage/?source=pulsenewsletter&campaign=5855836 Quote
dawolv Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 I normally can't stand Booger, I find his commentary to usually be inarticulate. BUT, I agree with the board that based on his recent coverage, he has won me over. Ryan Clark was truly special, great commentary, perspective and opinions. He is the reason I kept the broadcast on while trolling Twitter for additional medical updates. Quote
LabattBlue Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 (edited) I was surprised that NFLN stayed with whatever game replay they were airing. Then at some point(I am not sure who the two hosts were), came on after the game was cancelled, and maybe stayed on for 30-45 min…I think. I think FOX and CNN had more coverage of the incident that evening than NFLN did. Edited January 4, 2023 by LabattBlue Quote
