Damar Hamlin - Now (1/11/2023) discharged from Buf Gen & “recovering at home”

His heart rate is normal now and they have him on a ventilator to ease his brain back into resuming normal activity while they monitor things but until they take him off that they really won’t know if there’s any long term damage.  

I think they have ways of telling if there is really serious brain damage while the patient is sedated so no news is good news at this point

Actually only very primitive reflexes involving the lower brain, can rule out some paralysis and brain death itself.  But that's it. Higher functioning will not be known until he comes out of sedation and also of course can he prove that he can breathe on his own

I think no news is still no news at this crossroads, unfortunately- it could just as easily be a rough patch but waiting on a miracle. Just have to wait and see. 
 

I know this all intuitively but had hoped for a lil something still. Just being human. Especially after clicking through that one guys Twitter account a few mins ago (totally my own fault)

Last August 2021 (feels like yesterday at times), My family went through this exact situation with my younger brother who stopped breathing in the early AM due to swelling in his spinal cord caused by a recent emergency neck surgery that they needed to put disks in.  He also had sleep apnea.  So the combination caused him to stop breathing and the Ambulance was called. Unfortunately, CPR was not started until minutes after the 911 called..  and he was then intubated and induced into a coma so they can allow the body/brain to heal, etc.. 24 hours had to go by before the next test.

 

Tonight, when they take Damar out of the induced coma, they are hoping his body can remain stable from a functioning standpoint, heart beating, lungs, etc.  

My brother, had seizures immediately upon waking up, so they had to put him back into a coma and run a brain scan.  That is when we found out he was considered to have no brain activity and as a family decided to let him go.  

 

Last night, seeing the players/coaches/this feed, made memories come flooding back.  It was a difficult night for us all but I can only hope his family stays positive and no matter what happens, to remember what Damar would have wanted in all of this.

 

I hope he comes out unscathed and he can be with his family for the foreseeable future.

I'd like to point out one thing I saw last night, while hopefully keeping the focus of the thread on wellbeing of Damar, as I'm sure it's in the forefront of everyone's mind this morning. 

 

Last night I was floored by Stefon Diggs. Encircled  by his team and  attempting to unify and fire them up prior to learning the game would ultimately end for the night. You could see the tears on his cheeks hadn't dried. To me it was just an unbelievable display of leadership and character in that horrible moment.  I will not spend another ounce of energy or time commenting or reading into his in game or sideline behavior in the heat of the moment, it will go into the garbage next to the "diva" reputation he came here with.

 

He is a true leader.

OK. My bro had it on record in case he missed anything(he has been in and out of the house). The Doctor was talking about what they do in THESE circumstances but not necessarily in Hamlin's case. The DR. that spoke did not no specifics to this specific case and was just explaining what they sometimes have to do. KNOWING THIS, you comment makes sense now.
