I wouldn't care if the Bills don't take the field again this year. I can't believe I just typed that but it's the truth. I think a lot of us feel the same way. I honestly don’t care if they play or not; the game has lost all importance to me and I think it is a perfectly understandable reaction after seeing an unprecedented event unfold on the field like it did. I feel for everyone involved. You just can’t process seeing your teammate being administered CPR on the field so quickly. I suspect the trauma will linger for a while as they work thru it. Hearing that Damar is ok and his prognosis is good would he a great first step in the process. 3

Hamlin was taken severely ill/injured whilst playing the game. There will be an element of “but for the Grace of God…” for at least some time, every time a team mate is hit, every time someone stays down. Hamlin is still alive and hopefully pulls through. The other two lost their family member. Can’t believe you’d suggest one is easier to accept than the other.

Dawson Knox this season after losing his brother? Not playing may make it worse because all you have is time to dwell on it. I get what you’re saying… but this is quite different. His teammates and coaches watched him receive CPR on the field and he’s fighting for his life. It’s not 1 person processing their grief. 53+ players and an entire staff have to process this grief… and if they even want to step on the field again. Rightfully so. ngbills
Obviously Damar Hamlin's health is what is most important. That is all that matters right now. But let's stop with anything else, especially the I am happy with an L in this game and who cares about the super bowl, and all that. Even worse case scenario here you dont blow it all up. In tragedy you bond together and fight with your brothers. 1

You say it has to but I think the more compelling argument is that it’s totally meaningless Same way a baseball game isn't official until a certain number of innings is played, pretty sure the NFL would not consider the score after 1 drive to be meaningful. But at the end of the day. I could care less about what happens with that. The only concern at this point is that Hamlin is OK. SydneyBillsFan
On CNN, Dr. Leana Wen said that the fact he received CPR and defribiliation very quickly after the incident gives her hope. However, she also said that she anticipated a possibly long recovery period due to the damage caused to other vital organs while blood flow was potentially compromised.

Thank God there was great medical help immediately available there on the field to ensure the best outcome possible.

The intubation is just to control the airway and is part of a prolonged resuscitation. Look at the replay. He got hit in the throat / neck area not the chest. Not saying you are wrong but look at what he got hit. My explanation makes perfect sense based on the location of the hit. Rupture or clock the airway would allow the air in your lounge enough air for you to stand and move a big before you pass out. Then lack of more oxygen flow would give you cardiac arrest. So they would need to get you airflow first and then cpr. We’ll see what they say but the hit location was not the chest or you would think we would be seeing them all the time. The games will be rescheduled and the players can either forfeit or rally. But still, both would be understandable.

I think people are slightly concerned its an enormous amount of money that may go to a cause that doesn't need an enormous amount of money and that if Hamlin were able to direct it to something else, he might. But as you say, it will surely be put to good use.

I think this is why it was so shocking for the players and the announcers. They have seen players with serious injuries, even career ending injuries, but to see someone receiving CPR and having medical personnel using a defibrillator on the field .. that they have never seen and that is what I think truly is the difference. They all realized this was life and death.

Can’t believe you’d suggest one is easier to accept than the other. I’d argue it is in a sense, although it depends on the individual as well. But playing football - or any activity - can serve as a distraction from grief when it has occurred elsewhere. But, in Damar’s case, the football field is where it happened. Someone gets tackled - does he get up? If he does, will he fall down straight away again? Is he really ok? Or how about, if it happened to Damar, could it happen to them too? Even though it is probably a one in a billion occurrence. Going out on the field will not be easy in terms of mindset, especially for either the Bengals or Bills. That could be best, for that reason, that their next game is against each other. Edited January 3, 2023 by UKBillFan
