Logic Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 This has to be the very top of the top end possible outcomes of this situation for Hamlin. Like...this has to be within the 5% "absolute best case scenario in our wildest dreams" range, right? One week to the day since we weren't sure if he'd make it through the night. He is WALKING, he is talking, he is neurologically "clear as a bell", and he is headed home. Absolutely incredible. 2 1 Quote

If the docs will let him fly maybe they could let him hang with the boys in suite the players are in every game. I bet there were doctors and life-saving medical equipment on the plane. I doubt they would have that at a suite. Just a hunch. Quote
Motor26 Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 Should wait until he can walk onto the field...against the Bengals next week. Quote

Go Damar!!!!! I practice more of a "disorganized" religion. I have faith and I do believe in God and the power of prayer. With so many people praying, I pictured the very beginning of the movie "It's a Wonderful Life" where everyone in the town was praying for George Bailey. Their prayers were echoing in the celestial heavens and God was listening. 1 1 Quote

Scrolled down to the comments section about Damar being out of the hospital and back in Buffalo to see this: Like seriously, what type of human being gives a "thumbs down" to a statement like this after what we saw last week? Disgusting. It’s in every article I wonder that too but some people just gotta troll I guess. 1 Quote

A few notes: -the Doctors referred a couple times to "a transport" and "a transport team", which is usually how medical professionals reference a flight with medical capabilities on board. I think it was referenced that one of the Bills team physicians and trainers had stayed in Cincinnati with Damar. My guess would be them, plus an emergency physician licensed to practice in Ohio, maybe an airway physician (just in case), a full "crash cart" of defibrillator, cardiac medications, intubation supplies, oxygen etc. I can't imagine anything else because it would be hella embarrassing if they save the guys life only to put him on a plane and have some rare altitude-induced complication take him down. Medical transport to airport, EMS-equipped transport flight to Buffalo, medical transport to Buffalo General. -Damar was extubated early Friday morning and walked his first "circuit" of the ICU that afternoon! -Criteria for release from ICU were all organ systems stable, no need for critical respiratory care or intensive nursing. He reached that milestone this am. -Defer to new care team in Buffalo for all plans regarding rehabilitation timeline, release from hospital, further testing and diagnosis -No damage to cervical spine, they emphasized "neurologically intact" and walking with normal gait (although still quite weak) -Deflected all questions about whether he would be able to RTP in the NFL: said it's premature to discuss RTP until diagnosis is complete -Deferred questions about his rehab plan and whether he could return to Highmark as a spectator during playoffs, to his new care team of physicians in Buffalo. I hope they put him in a great big room at Buffalo General to accommodate all the teammates who want to visit him, otherwise the Bills are gonna have to be playing rock-paper-scissors or drawing lots. Just a gentle reminder that you, and you, and you (looking around the board) can all show agency. I would not for a moment diminish the power of Faith and Prayer, but as a friend of mine once said - "sometimes Prayer works best with tools in your hands and skill to use them". Learn CPR, and support the public availability of AEDs at schools, amateur sporting events, professional sporting venues, libraries, and yes, houses of Worship. 6 1 Quote

DrPJax Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 This is an example of how medicine and great medical professionals are supposed to work ,,why they “ lift all those books, spend all those years in school , do all that scenario training “ ( to steal from Bill Parcells ) ; how a team of medical professionals from EMT’s , to respiratory therapists , to drs, to speech therapists , to critical care nurses, to rehab specialists, and more all work in concert using the latest, best evidence medical protocols, while combining the art of medicine and the power of prayer to get a result where a young man can now fulfill his promise in life along with enjoying his family ! This is why the medical profession needs an influx of great young people as shortages are on the horizon with the last of the baby boomers reaching retirement age and the cost of education acting as a deterrent. Not everyone can be an NFL athlete , but look at the joy and pride those who were on the “ medical team” felt as they transferred Damar to his next level of care at Buffalo General. If you have kids or family who maybe aren’t headed to be NFL level athletes or don’t yet have a career in mind , think about encouraging them toward the medical field by using this example to serve others and help save medical science in its pure goal to seek the truth. There is already a high career demand and almost endless opportunities to chose where to live with great lifestyles available. This almost tragic event did a complete turnaround where something as simple , yet as vital as AEDs , might be seen as a future project to be made more accessible at sporting events , public places and schools, any place where large groups of people gather, and it may serve a purpose helping more people become aware how early intervention can lead fo better outcomes like Damar’s. Maybe Damar with this extraordinary experience will spur others on, and in addition to his current foundations work, use his social platform in conjunction with some health companies to once again help reinvigorate making AEDs available in communities that might not otherwise have the resources to attain them. 8 million $ for toys shows the possible good when people are moved to act together. It’s just a “little thinking out loud” as we all witnessed this human event turn into an quick reminder about what is really important in life and how when politics are removed from science , as the UC Drs said , “ with science there is hope” ! Go Bills and here’s hoping this is a sign of good things for the coming year for the great Buffalo community. It’s a relief hearing Damar is back in his home community, one step closer to being around his teammates, and able to watch the Bills “ squish the fish”! 👍😊 1 2 Quote
Success Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 I'm not religious (at all), but I do think all of the prayers and positive energy sent out by SO many people makes a difference. It was great to see the NFL world united for a few days like that, and the outpouring of support even from bitter rivals. 1 Quote
