I heard when Muki asked that and cringed. I think he meant to say “instrumental” but I can’t be sure. That said, I’ll definitely cut Muki some slack. It’s basically a national press conference with a lot of eyes and ears. Probably got a little mixed up. Who among us hasn’t made a mistake?

He didn't get a little mixed up, he just isn't particularly sharp. He's a good guy, but that's no reason to ignore the elephant lol

I think he was refuting to how much money was raised for his charity. His mom will show him the response and love from the world for him and his charity. I think.

I think you mean referring?

The Buffalo Bills training staff?

Um, No.    Denny Kellington, the Bills Assistant Trainer who performed initial CPR?  Unless he's been a combat medic or the like, probably has never done it for reals before.  Looks like he's kind of moved from college team to college team as a trainer and then to the Bills.

The paramedics and EMTs and the airway management specialist physician and the emergency medicine doc - of course you're correct.

My point: the NFL has set out these protocols in which the First Responders are the athletic trainers, who run out on the field and assess dents and dings and even neurological trauma all the time, but whose experience with an actual ABC true emergency is nil - and in which they have 1 meeting a week to discuss how they'll work together with the EMS professionals.

They had the protocols setting out roles and responsibilities, but they had never been actually used IRL

And they worked seamlessly, with the less-experienced First Responder athletic trainers correctly identifying the emergency and doing all the right things.

May you be bored!

Ill bet he has a 2nd job or worked in the field for many years... plus you have recertify in BLS every year or two.

I'll bet he's been an assistant trainer or trainer with a sports team since college.  Sure, you certify and recertify - doesn't mean CPR is something he's done ever for-reals, much less regularly.  That was my point.  The NFL had a theoretical plan mixing athletic trainers with EMS professionals.  It had never been tested.  It worked.

May you be bored! (on your ER shift)

Yeh I guess its a bit different seeing it regularly... but that training is ingrained... check breathing airway, clear it, check pulse do CPR until relieved... 30 chest compression 2 breaths... chest compressions are most important.

Maybe. It’s possible he genuinely didn’t know. I will say I listen to every player presser each week (typically avoid the coordinators and McDs - love McD but he really has mastered the art of saying nothing) and Muki is one of the more engaging reporters on the local beat. While occasionally corny, he brings a bit of energy and levity to the pressers with some of his player question intros. His questions are usually decent and the players seem to open up and appreciate him. Just because the guy makes a single mistake in a moment where nerves could easily have played a factor isn’t an indictment of his overall intelligence. Just my opinion, but, what you’re suggesting could just as well be true.

Am I old or just not remembering correctly?  Or both.  I remember only having to do 5 compressions for my lifeguard training in HS.

Yeah, CPR has changed a lot since I first certified 44 years ago.  5 compressions 2 breaths was the standard for 2-man CPR back then.  Now there is no 2 man CPR.

I’ve been following all of this except for the few past pages so I apologize if this has already been stated: it’s such a positive bit of info that he asked who won the game. That means that he understood he was playing a football game leading up to the injury. So many people get knocked out from a lot less serious injuries and don’t even remember that day or several days leading up to it.

The fact that he realized he was in a football game up to the point of going unconscious is such a positive sign for his brain being in good shape and in position for a good recovery.

I've gone through training for CPR training both with breathing and compressions only.  I guess the simplified it because too many people screwed it up when trying to do both, and the no breathing method works.

I had thought that once Hamlin turned the corner, his recovery would be pretty quick.  I don't really think he'll be back for the playoffs at all, but if he chooses to continue his career, I think he'll probably be able to do most of his off season routine and will be back at training camp next summer.  I heard the doctors said that once he's breathing on his own, he could probably leave the hospital pretty quickly.

Yep, took a CPR certification class today. 100-120 compressions per minute.
Well, I mean yesterday. Dang having to get up to use the bathroom.

Interview with Colts S Rodney Thomas high school teammate of Damar .. he visited Damar before he woke up .. and the emotion shows the weight that the players were feeling before he woke up. I found it very powerful.
