It is very interesting that Wilson has absolutely crashed and burned and now Geno is playing lights out. It does make you wonder how critical is coaching / system to the success of the “greats.”

and may be better OL

I'm not sure I have ever heard this before...kind of funny why it never happened as both QBs fell out of favor on their respective teams.

I don’t think this ever happened.  I guess there’s a chance he suggested it behind closed doors but there were so many leaks back then, that if the story had legs it would’ve made its way into the media.

Also if you remember, Rex signed IK Enemkpali for no other reason than to troll Geno and the Jets.  Doesn’t exactly sound like a player Rex thought too highly of.

Finally in summer 2016, the Bills resigned Tyrod Taylor to an extension and seemingly were behind him as starter.  This kind of kills the whole “change of scenery” idea because what would be the point of trading one backup QB for another?

More revisionist history from Rex trying to pretend he thought more of Geno than he did

yes, EJ just needed more time to perfect his ability to miss receivers by a mile lol

Manuel had physical talent. He could throw the JA17 patented deep over 25 yards downfield outside the numbers. The problem was he could only do it in preseason against basic defenses. He got confused and rattled awfully easily, just couldn't make the reads or process the game fast enough.

Funny because Tyrod played significantly better then both before this exact season (geno), weird flex. tyrod was the qb that played for us when the streak ended, even if he was very average. Some bills fans have a weird hate for tyrod

I’ve been in countless arguments defending TT on this board. It is weird indeed. We all know he wasn’t elite by any means, but u would think someone who helped break a 20 year drought would be regarded higher. I’ve had people telling me he wasn’t an important piece on that team.

Absolutely agree.   One of the first things McDermott did was to plug up all the leaks that were occurring regularly from the front office.

Also  heavy.com is probably one of the least reliable sources on the internet, which is saying something indeed.

Even if the trade happened it wouldn’t have mattered. What got Rex fired was his teams lack of discipline and the defense having a regression in both his seasons as HC from the 2014 Schwartz coached defense

"Trade EJ? Over my dead body!"

I've been looking for that zip-up for years!

I needed to buy one then and need to buy one now...

Whaley/Nix picked Manuel over Geno when everyone and their mother said Geno was the #1 QB in the class and Manuel was a 3rd round project. 10 years later Geno is in the pro bowl and Manuel is a college football analyst

Geno was hated by his teammates, which is no longer the case, and was not good for at least his first 4 years. EJ was better than Geno at the beginning and predicting this ten years later would be crazy.

I came here to make some snarky comment intended to skewer Rex's revisionist B.S. ...

something along the lines of what you brought up! He brought in the guy that hit Geno lmao

Not only did he do that, but unless I mistaken he made Enemkpali a captain for the first game against the Jets.  Or am I just imagining that? What an absolute performative clown Rex was

My recollection is EJ beat Geno in the Pin Stripe Bowl and the narrative was how could you take the losing QB from that game. That’s how I remember that icky draft.

I distinctly remember watching, very closely, the Orange Bowl in his senior year.  I wanted to focus purely on him as there was a lot of talk about him (and other QBs of course).

I watched the entire game, FSU won, but the entire time I was thinking "This guy is horrible by college football standards; he can't do A, B, C, or D...I project him to have zero future in the NFL."

And then the Bills end up with him!

Keep in mind I also absolutely FEARED the Bills taking either of Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson!

You win some, you lose some.

Manuel was more of a "franchise QB" type due to his mannerisms. I totally think that EJ was ruined by the coaching staff of Saint Doug

Truth is Marrone only cared about Marrone not necessarily the team hence him leaving once he learned Kyle Orton wouldn't be back. I still question why he brought in Hackett as a first year OC and QB coach with a rookie QB.

That defense was really good. Amazing still how he ruined it so quickly. That's why I find it funny when the fire McDermott/Beane are made.  We have seen some bad front offices during the draught and this is a great time to be a bills fan. And that's because of our front office.
