Isn't it odd that they haven't worn the throwbacks yet.  That's the reason they could not have the red helmets

What do the throwbacks have to do with the red helmets? Throwbacks were worn with the white helmets.

If I was in charge, this combination wouldn't exist.

 

 I prefer all red, which is not really our best look, also all blue!

I disagree that this is not trying from an artistic standpoint.  The white on white is clearly a minimalist postmodern look, white on white are chic monochromatic ensembles that range from floaty and bohemian to structured and formal.
