Biggest urban legend on this board.

Truth: Trent Edwards sucked badly before during and after the hit in Arizona, which was a legitimately hard hit..  He was horrible from day one but his best statistical game came after that hit.  There is a good chance he was drafted only because Bill Walsh promoted him to then GM Marv Levy and this was done as a practical joke between two old friends.

BINGO!! Trent Edwards checked the ball down consistently, hence the name Trentative. He could hit short passes and quick hitters that were predetermined. However, he came on to the team after a period of such horrible QB play that his mild competence made him seem great by comparison, much like Tyrod Taylor. Plus fans were so desperate for a solution.

was a lot like peterman. Could be highly accurate is practice. But the game went too fast and he didn’t have the arm for the nfl

Apparently tua had 3 concussions this year according to those fins fans.

I only recall two and a back injury.  At least that's what they were saying back in September.

But he really might need to call it a career.  I already have a feeling that Morse is going to retire at the end of the season and he's on his seventh? Concussion.

Guy has nothing to prove and made enough to support himself for the rest of his life.  Needs to think about his health (and the fact that he went to a doctor instead of his coaching staff shows he might think they don't care about his health).

Wiz, my buddy wanted to draft Humphrey in the second round so very, very badly.

He loves Morse, but so much upside with Humphrey.

Totally cool if MM rides into the sunset because of his health...but boy, KC is set at Center for a decade.

If you ever meet my friend, don't talk to him about it.  It still bugs him...and don't even start on Ngata!

😅

I think a lot of people noticed the head hit, but they cut away from it really fast as the play was going on down the field.

It’s also a play that happens all the time. People just noticed it because it’s Tua.

I hate it for him, but if you can get concussed that easily .. you either need someone to coach you on how to protect yourself, or maybe you’re just unable to given physical stature.

I know guys like Brees had long careers, but Tua and (for other reasons) Kyler seem injured all the time.

Tua isn't just small, he's weak, and his self preservation and balance is bad. When he gets hit or tackled he gets thrown like a rag doll every time, it's comical. He's like a child out there.

The fins were already docked a first for tampering this year.

At this rate they will be hit with something for continuing to put tua out there with brain injuries. Somehow 2 of the 3 concussions (both before halftime) weren't noticed and he completed a game.

They are risking tuas life to try and get in the playoffs and it's pretty sick.

That organization and culture is just plain wrong

He’s had 6 now I think. He has made $50M and has 2 little kids. Morse has had a fantastic year but you can’t fault him if he hangs them up.

6 in a career is far cry from 3 in 3 months.  I had a ton myself but over time.

I was determined to prove you wrong, so I checked the stats.  Holy crap, who stuck the rose-colored glasses on.  Stats-wise prior he was servicable at best.  Didn't change much after.

I'll still maintain he never looked right after the hit.  I remember one play vs. Miami where he ran out of bounds two yards short of the marker on 3rd down.  Typical of him, I know.  Except he didn't run out of bounds.  He stopped like a half yard from the sideline and just stood there.  Defender was confused, pulled up and gave him a gentle shove oob.

He may not have been good prior or worse after, but there was definately something wrong.

A reminded for all about how most of us felt at the time "right now 10 yards seem pretty far but you don't have to use a car"

In one way, this works out best for Tua if he walks away He was never going to win a ring in this league, but now he can play ‘what if’; what if he hadn’t suffered concussions.? He can make a whole new career in football if he plays his cards right.

Boy I sure as frick don't miss his 3 yard checkdown on a 3rd & 15

I believe I read somewhere that Mitch has a specialist he sees concerning his concussions.  He seems to be very intelligent and he understands the risks involved.  He knows he’s set for life financially.  I won’t be surprised if he walks after this season.

It's likely because they knew that if he entered protocol when we played them, he wouldn't have cleared in time for the Thursday night game.  Which ended up the worst possible way for him.

You look at what agahlor did to stop the play when he knew his teammate was out on his feet and then you look back to that week 3 game of tuas teammates helping him barely stand up.

Win first, health second mentality comes from the coaching.  McD doesn't even let healthy players play because he worries about their long term well being.

This isn’t true at all. I think it largely comes from Tre taking 12 months to come back, so the fan base has turned it into some noble venture.

Allen is playing with an injury to his throwing arm.

Poyer played a game where he wasn’t healthy enough to get on an airplane.

Cole Beasley played on a broken leg.

Mitch Morse will likely be cleared to play at some point after his 6th NFL concussion. Not counting juniors or college.

Tommy Doyle played a game with a torn ACL and McD praised his toughness for doing it in the post game.

None of those instances are player for at precautions. The Tua thing is a disaster for the NFL, the Dolphins, and McDaniels. But the Bills aren’t some holier than thou franchise when it comes to injuries.

A lot of people thought he was hanging it up after last year. It was probably a difficult decision.

No knock on Mitch - a guy brought in to stabilize a very poor O line, who did exactly what we wanted him to do - but is it just coincidence/a bad Bears defense that resulted in our best rushing performance all year? Bates at C/Van Roten at G may actually provide better run blocking at least?

The thing for Tua is that these concussions are cumulative in both frequency and severity. To me McDaniel is an idiot and a liar. He should be keeping an eye on Tua like a hawk, obviously more so than any other player on that team.

You are comparing apples to grapefruits. Playing with a bad leg or elbow is far different than playing with concussion symptoms. The brain is a delicate organ and concussions can lead to permanent disability and death.

Clearly that’s the case. And the Tua situation is obviously serious.

But our staff isn’t any more careful than the other 30 teams (excluding Miami) in the league when it comes to injury management. It’s just a homer thing we keep saying because of Tre in the wake of Tua.

I would like to believe this specific situation doesn’t happen in Buffalo. But from a general injury perspective our coaching staff isn’t special.

EDIT: I’m not comparing apples to grapefruits. I highlighted a post that said our coaching staff was cautious regarding injury. A statement I keep seeing posted, which is a knee jerk to how long it took Tre to come back. But at scale really isn’t true.

If he's concussed, that's really sad. I hate the Phins but don't wish brain damage on any player.

Any chance — and yes this sounds crazy, I know — that the post-game concussion protocol is damage control for the fans upset with Tua? It's easier to swallow if you know (or think) we was playing wobbly? I've heard enough crazy theories these past couple years so there's mine.

I don’t think so because they could be missing him for the NE game now if he doesn’t clear.  They’d also need tua to lie about his symptoms to even get him into the protocol and I can’t see why he would want to do that.

it could be he was fine during the game and the symptoms showed up later…that happens

They gambled with Tua, trying to make this year their year, and were still trying this weekend.  Which is crazy.  They are not winning the SB this year, and they might have just cost themselves what was actually starting to look like a franchise QB this year.  Hell, I remember Trent Edwards and how he looked before and after the Cards game.  And that was just a single concussion.

I think trent just got figured out…teams started dropping 8 into coverage and he was lost.  He had one of the best games of his career against SD his first game back after the concussion

Miami looks terrible in this.  But to me it looks like Tua is doing some self promoting at the expense of Miami.

With the first concussion against the Bills Tua came in and won the game - no self reporting.  And both Tua and Miami paid a hefty price when the followup blast against Cincy put him out for a while.

This time when they lose the game and the timing of the potential concussion can explain away a terrible performance- Tua self reports.  Does make for questions of if Tua would have self reported if the results had been different.

Terrible optics for Miami.  Tua looks pretty self-serving too though, and the franchise can't be happy with him.  I can't complain though.

To quote "the program"

Are they hurt or are the injured?

If their hurt they can still play, if their injured they can't.

Concussions are a different beast altogether.  If they are cleared to play there is no reason McD won't let them play unless they say otherwise.

I don't think they are "holier than thou" but they do tend to be extra precautious when it comes to players injuries.
