Falcons QB Marcus Mariota has left the building(leaves team after being benched)

I look at Colt McCoy's career and see a successful model.  In the league since 2010.  He's outlasted everyone else picked in the 3rd round of the draft.

He could have had a similar career.  There are worse things in life than making millions being a backup quarterback with real shots at starting fame and glory.

Life's lesson is stay out of your own way.

What a great teammate...was told he was being benched and got up and left the building apparently. Has also not given the team or coaches any indication of if or when he will return.

Did anyone read the article and not just the clickbait tweet?

He wasn't in the building b/c his wife went into labor. He's not immediately coming back because he has a knee injury and going to IR.

Last week, Smith addressed the press and gave a preview of the looming decision to make a change at quarterback.

“We will have some very intense meetings in the next couple of days. Obviously, I know where we’re at. We understand, too, that we’ve been in some close games lately and we need to get back over the hump,” Smith said. "There will be changes made. Everything that we decide to do I will be as transparent as possible.”

That day, Smith also informed the press that Mariota wasn’t in the building because his wife went into labor with their first child.

Smith added on Monday that Mariota was also likely to be placed on injured reserve with what Smith described as a “chronic” knee injury.

Yea agreed. Does seem out of character for him. When the Titans benched him there was a lot about how he took it like a pro then he was a backup for a year in Vegas without any issues. Wonder if it is just VERY obvious to everyone that Ridder is not good. If that is the case this is a risk for Arthur Smith because he is about to hit the end of year 2 and that team is going nowhere. If he benches a better player when only two games out of 1st for a sucky kid then that locker room will get toxic fast.

Who the hell is Marcus Mariota.  The guy has done NOTHING in the NFL, and was playing lousy for the 5-8 Falcons.  Ridder was very good at U of C.  He was drafted in the 3rd round.  He should get his shot.

Its professional sports.  You play well.  You get to keep playing.  You play poorly on to the next guy.  The Colts need to do the same with Matt Ryan.  He is so done.

That maybe works if your mindset is "get to a good spot and just ride out a good life, being happy and thankful for what you have"

Most NFL players aren't wired like that. It's a hyper competitive sport that attracts hyper competitive people. They want to be the best, the guy, number 1. Anything less is failure.

You could argue he was playing better than Carr when he played with the raiders for a few years

Maybe a great back up QB pick up for the Bills

Oh!  There's an angle I didnt think of.  Then I will get to watch every single Bills game out here in Hawaii.

As I mentioned in a previous post,

"(FYI, for those outside the Hawaii market, if a "local Polynesian guy" makes it in the NFL, then the team he's playing for is what's usually broadcast here in the islands - often taking priority over a much preferred, more competitive, meaningful game)."

No, I generally don't read, I just go on the attack around here, its more fun that way.

Does this mean I no longer have to watch:

- Non-stop First Hawaiian Bank Marcus Marriota commercials?

- Non-stop Island Insurance Marcus Marriota commercials?

- And most frustrating, Atlanta Falcons games always taking priority over the Nationally aired NFL games? (FYI, for those outside the Hawaii market, if a "local Polynesian guy" makes it in the NFL, then the team he's playing for is what's usually broadcast here in the islands - often taking priority over a much preferred, more competitive, meaningful game).

Truly nauseating!

How do you and @GoBills808 watch Bills games internationally?  I will be in Bali this weekend and have not found a reliable way to beat Sunday Ticket's geo locator.

I was speculating. If he has stormed out just for a benching when he has been pretty average that is one thing. But if Ridder comes in and stinks because he isn't ready that may explain Mariota's reaction.

I can't see him getting another job in the NFL after that, prior he had a chance to be a backup in the very least. Now he just blew that chance as not a good look for him at all.

I agree with pretty much everything you said, with the exception of him ever landing another job again.  As we all know this a passing league, and the game itself revolves around the QB position.  Let's add to the fact that Mariota, while he isn't in any danger of stealing the the NFL MVP from Josh or whoever, also isn't a bottom feeder QB.  He's only 29 years old and has pretty decent mobility.  The bottom line is someone is going to be more than willing to overpay for him.

With all that said, and without knowing the whole situation, if this is in fact true, this is some bush league type sh!t, and not something I would expect from Mariota.  I'm actually still kinda having a hard time trying to digest this.  It doesn't make sense.  This is a what have you done for me lately league, and the bottom line is, if you don't perform, someone is ALWAYS waiting in the wings for their shot.  Very immature IMO, and disappointing to read.

You're right. He'd have been better off committing a crime.

The blurb seems intentionally misleading.
