Updated Beasley signing to practice squad

I think it's a sign coaching staff doesn't want to head into the playoffs with Crowder having no chemistry with Allen due to very limited reps and a long time with none. Beasley gives him someone he has thrown the ball to a lot the last few years.

Then again, there was that guy who sat next to Mitch Morse's dad last year and was told he's definitely retiring ...

I haven't seen the game replay yet but being their in person...........the reaction of the players when Dummy dropped that second 3rd down pass and they had to settle for the FG...........it was heated.    Rarely see Allen react that frustrated and Davis and Diggs were both flailing their arms because they were open...........but McKenzie was clearly the right read because he was open and it was the shortest and highest % throw.  

 

Then McKenzie gets to the sideline and appears to be explaining why he dropped the ball.   Like there was some valid excuse for it. 

 

Unfortunately,  the first thing that goes with WR is often the hand/eye coordination not the speed.    So color me unsurprised that Smoke got open deep yesterday but couldn't catch the ball (and was credited with a drop).    

 

  

I know what my reaction to that drop was in the stadium.  It was not good.  

 

The Brown play I could live with.  It was contested.  Knox I can kind of live with late in the game because he had CJ Moseley bearing down on him and interfering with his line of sight.  The McKenzie drops, however, are too much.  Enough is enough.  We are desperate for a receiver who can act as an extension of the running game and help us get the occasional third and short.  If Bease's return happens, it's an excellent move.

Adios to likely KeeSean Johnson.  Then we see what happens with Miami.  My guess is that Brown would not be elevated this week, and then it would be a week-by-week thing thereafter.

Agreed. I think he makes the team better at the margin. He had a fantastic season in 2020, and was still generally effective last year. He probably doesn't have a lot left in the tank, but I'd be surprised if he's fallen off a cliff by simply sitting around most of the time (avoiding hits, etc.) and spending a very little amount of time with Tommy B. in Tampa. I thought he'd burned bridges here, but when you're trying to win a title a lot is forgiven.

I didnt realize Crowder had a chance of returning this year. When would he be expected back?

I look at it this way.........the hopes of this offense looking like the surgical 2020 passing offense or even the one we saw late in the divisional round game against KC when Allen and Davis went off against that banged up Chiefs secondary are unrealistic given the lack of matchup winning talent on offense.

 

But they can still be a team that can score 30+ points against a good defense by using Allen running the ball to break down otherwise well played defense 6-10 times a game to extend drives and convert in the red zone.    

 

But having someone who can convert 3rd downs to keep the chains moving from the slot is imperative when playing this style of offense.  

 

Personally,  I think Beasley is probably washed but I'm open to a practice squad level flyer.    I doubt Crowder offers much when he comes back because he's hardly played in this offense or with Allen.

Crowder has been running along the sidelines and working with trainers at practice. Probably still waiting for the all clear for contact which as we saw with Tre White could be anytime between now and next Thanksgiving

Allen got all he could from him - he’s a great gadget guy and that’s it.  Slot WR for Allen should have 60 catches by now.

I mean, at this point it’s an all hands on deck to pad our WR depth for the stretch run, and we could def do worse than a guy who Josh often trusted to move the sticks on critical 3rd downs…mind you we won’t be getting any YAC from him, but what good is that anyway if the catch isn’t made first, right McKenzie?

I think he’s just about washed myself.  But nothing ventured nothing gained, and if he picks up one or two big third downs the rest of the way it’s worth it.   It’s like taking a flier on brown to see if we can free up Diggs for use in the slot here and there.  No harm in trying.  
 

Frankly,  we’re desperate in the slot.  This was at least the second really bad game McKenzie has played this season.  They don’t think Shakir can get open there.  Hines isn’t ready for that role, and they don’t trust Cook with some of those snaps.  So Bease it is.  
 

I’ll add that I doubt this happens if Hodgins didn’t end up with the giants.  I really think we would have run him out there in the  big slot role and given it a go before taking a shot at it with Bease.

This.  All day long.  McKenzie seems like a really nice, fun guy.  But this excuse-making and deflection of responsibility is too much.  Amateur move in that tweet.

NO THANK YOU. In his two games in Tampa he was a joke. He would be lucky to get a USFL job. Beasley is not an upgrade. If McKenzie has the dropsies then it’s next man up. Not old man tryout time. Did you see any playoff team take a flyer on him including Dallas after the failed OBJ deal when their 2nd best WR has 350 yards receiving?
