Rigotz Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 I would rate them "too early to rate" Kaiir Elam: looked good at times, but made rookie mistakes James Cook: Looked good at times, but made rookie mistakes Terrel Bernard: Barely played Khalil Shakir: Barely played Matt Araiza: Gone Christian Benford: Probably a diamond in the rough? Luke Tenuta: Gone Quote
H2o Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Beane needs to be on the hot seat at least, if not fired. . . . I just wanted to be the first to say it. 1 2 8 Quote

Luke Tenuta: Gone You’re right of course. But we all rate them before they’ve put on a shirt. It’s just a game - one of speculation. Nobody is going to actually going to review you at work for your response so far I’d go elam - 7 looks fine. Not a standout first round choice yet. cook - 9 - a real player there Bernard - 4 - I want this one to work *so* much but it will take a while Shakir - 9 - I think he’ll be a star punt god - 0 - don’t rape women - also was punting so key to our game? benford - 8 - decent pick tenuta - 0 - waste when you see what an undrafted rookie did at the w/e 1 1 Quote
SCBills Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 James Cook looks like he will be the starting RB next year. He’s good. Kaiir Elam has looked good in his moments but can’t get on the field for whatever reason. I like his potential as CB2 opposite White moving forward into the ‘23 season. Christian Benford, whether at CB or S looks like legit depth with the upside of average - above average starter. Terrel Bernard, who knows. Nobody understood the pick when they made it, and when they inevitably extend Edmunds, it will make even less sense. Not sure what he is, or will be, in the future. Khalil Shakir shows promise that he will compete for starting slot next year. Like Elam, he’s shown he can do some things but isn’t really utilized much. All in all… 3 strong picks for the future in Cook, Elam and Benford. One potentially strong pick in Shakir. One ::shrugs:: in Bernard. As of now though.. they’re not doing much of anything to help us. Bringing rookies along slowly is fine … but when you’re paying a QB, those rookie contracts are gold. Quote
Dopey Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Kaiir Elam: gonna be a good one...still learning our zone concepts vs. straight man to man James Cook: gonna make a lot of plays for us...next year Terrel Bernard: smart player and will take another year to see what we have...needs some more meat on his bones Khalil Shakir: gonna be a good one...still needs a little time...there's a reason he lasted 'til the 5th round Matt Araiza: hopefully he get's another chance...that leg can be a weapon in changing field position...will it be with us? Christian Benford: gonna be a good one...will it be at CB or Safety? Luke Tenuta: Gone Quote
Process Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 The bills are ready to win a SB now. They should be drafting players that can contribute now. We spent our first three picks on a CB that isn't playing, a RB we don't use and a special teams player. The early returns are not great but hopefully they develop and con contribute next year. Imagine how much better off we'd be if we took Pickens/Watson/Robinson and than an o lineman in round 3. 1 1 2 Quote

DCOrange Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 If we're grading strictly based on their contributions/performance to this point, they're all pretty low grades IMO. There's certainly been a decent number of flashes from Cook, and a few flashes from Elam and Shakir to think they can be solid in the future but there's a chance this is just a straight up bad draft from Beane. 1 1 Quote
Lost Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Our overall 22 draft is a C- at this point. Kaiir not starting. Cook was an unnecessary pick and still hasn't proven much Bernard too slow to be a starting LB Shakir could be decent, still not enough snaps Arazia no comment needed Benford was the best pick in our draft Not a lot of productivity here when you look around the league at other teams draft picks. 1 2 1 Quote
DabillsDaBillsDaBills Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 It's way too early, but based on on-field production relative to draft status I'll go with these ratings: Elam - 5 - wasn't terrible when he was playing (wasn't great either). Healthy scratch for the past few games. Cook - 3 - Got off to a very slow start with fumbling his first NFL touch. Looked like an NFL quality player vs NE and CLE. Bernard - 1 - Looked like a wasted pick when we made it. Continues to look like a wasted pick Shakir - 3 - Barely played, but that's not bad for a 5th rd pick Araiza - 0 - DNP Benford - 9 - Looks like at least a playable depth guy. That's great value for 6th rd Tenuta - 0 - DNP Spector - 0 - DNP Elam, Cook, and Shakir have all shown flashes to make me think they can be quality starters in the years to come. But for now they've barely contributed to the current season. 2 Quote
Bruffalo Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Getting new players in the system involved is probably my biggest complaint about McDermott. It takes him way too long to slot in players and it makes evaluating rookie talent almost impossible. Elam has looked decent, but have no idea what the future holds. Cook: Currently it feels like he's a wasted pick with the touch count. He hasn't been used as the pass catching RB we thought he can be at all. Again, I chalk this up to McD though. It's the reason guys like Blackshear are getting snatched up while we held onto guys like Zack Moss. Bernard: I hated the pick at the time, and I still don't like it. I'm sure he's a high character guy but it's becoming so apparent that the Bills can't let go of Edmunds. Shakir: Who knows? Could be good, could be nothing. Araiza: No comment. Benford: Best pick considering the value. Might as well stop talking about the draft after that. Quote

(Would have been a starter - absent personal situation) Christian Benford: gonna be a good one...will it be at CB or Safety? (Probably Starla of the draft and may be a starter - definitely quality depth) Luke Tenuta: Gone If you set aside the Araiza personal situation - 3 starter quality players - 1 other probable starter - 1 role player and 1 depth player - pretty darn good draft in my opinion. Nothing wrong with sitting rookies. 1 Quote

Nephilim17 Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Still don't get the Bernard pick. Draft a guy that high to be Milano's backup? He doesn't look like a replacement for MLB if we don't resign Edmunds and I don't think we want a big nickel player so where will he fit in? Quote

I think they are seeing something special and un-archetypal about him. A gamble. I’m not yet convinced we don’t celebrate this as a genius pick in years. But long shot.
