I'd push back heavy on this.

Hyde/Poyer > Poyer/Hamlin ADV '21

Tre/Elam/Rhodes/Johnson/Jackson > Jackson/Wallace/Johnson etc ADV '22

Edmunds/Milano > Edmunds/Milano ADV '22 (same players.... different Edmunds)

Ed/Jones/Settle/Phillips > Ed/Harry/Star etc ADV '22

Jerry/Mario/Rousseau/AJ/Boogie > Shaq/Rousseau/AJ/Boogie ADV '21

I'm taking our defense, as is, over last years every time.

We've just taken another hit to what could've been one of the best defenses in a decade.

Last year's D was a paper tiger. Every time they faced a good offense they got torched. Titans, Colts, Bucs, Chiefs. I would take this year's D as well.

Because someone ‘mentioned it’ on this frigging board, it becomes irrelevant?

lemmings.

What in the world are you talking about? You think rehabbing a second ACL tear on a 33 year old body with an extra 9 years of NFL wear and tear is the same as rehabbing a first ACL on a 24 year body ?

Let's hope it is only a partial tear.  With it not showing up on the MRI I would hope it is. A lot of talk about the artificial turf, but, I don't think that was the major factor.  The Detroit Center rolled up on his knee from behind and the turf had minimal to no affect

you’re not wrong, but it does kinda suck knowing that Miller forced the game winning Int against KC in the regular season. He was doing what we brought him here to do. Someone else is going to need to fill that void. Who is going to be that playmaker when the defense needs a stop in the playoffs?

Groot second year is our hope here. Guy is as physically gifted as Von and hopefully coached up. Still need to make push this year.  LFG

I’m talking pass rush/finishers.  They’re worse

Pass rush worse, secondary as a whole in coverage is worse. So - We are better against the run. We are worse vs the pass. What is more important come playoffs?

Why do you keep calling it a career ender?  You have no clue, man.  Also, why the hell would Von accept an injury settlement?  Guy negotiated three years of guaranteed $$$, for a situation just like this.  He'll rehab and return in mid-to-late 2023.  The only real question we should be asking ourselves is how much will he have left in the tank when he's back on the field?

I said it COULD BE a career ender.

If the MRI was read correctly, then Miller has surgery a few weeks prior.

If an ACL takes a year to recover from, time is precious.

Like it was said upthread, this tear wasn't obvious in the MRI.

Has Beane actually said that?

If so, I’m not sure I really understand that thinking. You could say the same about any big money contract - if that player gets injured it leaves a big hole in your lineup. That’s not a reason to not sign good players in free agency. It’s not like free agents are more prone to injury than guys you draft/develop + sign to big money…

Also, I really don’t get all the “Von’s injury suddenly makes this a bad contract” takes in this thread. It was an injury. They happen in football all the time. It doesn’t suddenly make the Von signing a bad contract. The Bills needed a true finisher on the D line. They went and signed one of the best.

Does the injury leave a big hole in the lineup? Yes. But doesn’t that kind of help prove it was a good signing?

Bills paying him bug bucks to hang out poolside with a cast.  Nice job!

so you're saying there was no injury clause in the contract stating if injured/out for the season by december the contract would be null and void?

like they had a clue he would be out for the season by december. 🙄

Now would be a great time for the Texans to release Hughes…

Is there anyone out there who is available that Beane can bring in? It would be nice if the Texans released him, but we can't count on that

Did you bother reading my original post before your little word game assault?

Said ‘not necessarily’.  Try to research those two words when used in combination.  In the meantime, welcome to my ignore lists JA.

He doesn’t consistently win as a pass rusher. He has a bull rush. And then shoestring/ diving plays. I’m glad we have him. But he’s not the closer / finisher Von is.

A team ahead of us in the waiver order would likely claim him.
