Outdoor Security Cameras?

Hey everyone, I am looking for opinions on outdoor security cameras.  We live in a city neighborhood where the houses sit probably 20-30 ft from each other.  We are having an issue with a neighbor coming on to our property and blowing his yard debris on to our property and actually blowing the debris under our bushes next to our house.  He does all of this when we are not around.  Another neighbor tells us it's him.  So it's time for cameras.  Any recommendations?

if it's that close, the Ring cameras work great.  Put one of them outside with a FOV of your area of concern.  You'll get realtime notification any time there's motion there.  You can adjust the sensitivity if your cat sets it off too often

Why not just go next door and have a chat with your neighbour?  If it's him, tell/ask him to knock it off.

I second RING. I have 3 cameras at two houses and they're great. $10 for six months of storage... motion detection, notifications, etc.

Set up invisible electric fencing so if he does this it shocks him.

Outside of WiFi, i agree.  I have several scattered around the back 40, and get some awesome wildlife shots.  The downside here is that you have to either trunk them with cellular (like $25 a month) if you want to see whats going on in real time, or go periodically to them and pull the memory card to see.

 

Close to the house though, Ring or something similar are better in that you get the real time alerts and cloud storage for a trivial monthly charge

I grabbed a set of 4 Lorex cameras with a hub at Costco. They are battery operated and work on Wi-Fi.  The hub hooks up to your router. I can use my phone to view them anytime. They are motion sensitive (adjustable sensitivity) and record when they detect any motion. They’re pretty darn good and cost only a few hundred bucks. Battery life is excellent and installing them was easy since they are wireless. Just a couple screws each. I’d highly recommend sometime that. 
 

Edit: My only gripe is that only one person at a time can be signed into the app for them. Only that person gets notifications. If someone else signs in, then the other person gets kicked off.

Don't use wifi cameras unless you want some Romanian pornographer hacking into them and selling feeds of your house for $0.99/mo.

 

Another consideration is that it's entirely possible police could get ahold of your footage without a warrant so if you kill your neighbor on camera they got you.

I am concerned about such accusations. Can you please link a few sites to show me you're not lying? I need to do research.

I'm concerned about the Romanian pornographer.  Can you provide examples, so I know what to avoid when placing cameras?

I'm not a fan of a security camera society, so I won't get one personally, BUT when we were having an issue with some kind of rodent trying to claw its way into our house, above the front porch, I got a couple sonic rodent things.  One is plugged into the porch outlet, and has a blue ring light that looks identical to one of the cameras.  Chick's happy we got some camera looking device out front, and the rodent went away.  
 

Whether you go with the camera or not, a well-positioned sprinkler setup and a remote control can provide hours of entertainment.

Ring works great.  I have Ring with a solar cell so there is no need to recharge batteries or connect directly to an outlet.  The only issue is sensitivity and range.  Depending on how big your yard is the camera might not trigger when he moves on to your yard or it might go off every time the wind blows.

I've actually gone over 2 times to speak with him and he never answers the door.  2 days ago he he actually dumped a bag of leaves he had cleaned up at some point this fall and blew them all under my deck.  I went running outside and told him he was being rude, trespassing and if I ever saw him on my property again or if he aimed him blower in the direction of my house I would contact the police and a lawyer.  He laughed and said I didn't know you were home 🤬

I have the simplisafe system.  Works great and very reasonable for rtc monitoring. but only have an inside camera.  Anybody tried their outside camera?  We've seen bear tracks recently and would love to record them.

Just went to simplisafe to see if any deals.  These https://simplisafe.com/home-security-shop-packages are very good (I don't work for or have any financial interest in the co).  I just bought the package with 2 outdoor cameras cuz it's cheaper than buying them separate plus I can protect a few more places.
