LewPort71 Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 Yes. There was a show on Sunday night about Christmas and Cinema. The vast majority of the people involved conclude that Die Hard is a Christmas movie. Why does John McClain go to LA ? To see his wife and kids for Christmas. 1 Quote
Doc Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 No. It's a movie that takes place around Christmas time but has nothing else to do with Christmas. 5 Quote
WhoTom Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 No. It's a Saturnalia movie that was usurped by the Roman Empire and rebranded as a Christmas movie. 2 Quote
f0neguy Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 Absolutely! “Now I have a machine gun Ho-Ho-Ho” Quote

Sounds like a black and white silent movie, originally. I bet the Roman’s didn’t even have remote controls to change the channel. 12 minutes ago, f0neguy said: Absolutely! “Now I have a machine gun Ho-Ho-Ho” The “Ho-Ho-Ho’ clinches it! Die Hard is as much of a Christmas movie as Home Alone or The Chevy Chase Christmas movies. A lot of movies are set during Christmas, while relatively few are about Christmas. 1 1 Quote
muppy Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 Office Christmas party was the starting point so the movie has a tinge of Christmas but otherwise nah PS: RIP Alan Rickman. What a great actor 1 Quote

Success Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 You don't put a Christmas tree in "Jaws" and then call it a Christmas movie. Perhaps a roundabout way of saying that no - Die Hard is absolutely NOT a Christmas movie. I have no idea why this has become a thing. 1 1 Quote
Doc Brown Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 It absolutely is. -It takes place during a Holiday Office party. -It has a quote that says, "It's Christmas Theo. It's a time for miracles." -The soundtrack has multiple Christmas tunes. -Gifts such as machine guns and detonators were exchanged. 2 1 Quote
Greg S Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Yes, it is. Nothing wrong with killing a bunch of terrorists and blowing up a building on Christmas. It adds to the holiday cheer. Quote
Metal Man Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 It absolutely is a Christmas movie. As is Die Hard 2 and Gremlins. Quote
LeviF Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 For those of you that say no, what would have to be added to it for it to be a Christmas movie? And do you hold other movies that involve Christmas to the same standard? Quote

Jesus the Christ is rarely mentioned in traditional "Christmas" movies so there is that Quote
teef Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 it's a christmas movie in the same way that gremlins is a christmans movie. how's that for not answering the question? Quote
Johnny Hammersticks Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Yes, it’s a Christmas movie. Everyone who says otherwise hates puppies. 1 3 Quote
dpberr Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Yes. 100%. Besides all the Christmas visuals and the fact that the movie takes place on Christmas Eve. Redemption: John/Holly relationship, Powell redeeming himself shooting Karl after shooting the child earlier in his career Christmas miracles: The FBI shutting off the power to open up the vault, McClane making it out alive. Scrooge: Hans Gruber ruins an otherwise fantastic looking Christmas party. 1 Quote
The BLUES Brothers Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 When they had the Celebrity Roast of Bruce Willis on The Comedy Channel - during his retort to roast back all the celebs - he went out of his way to say it is NOT a Christmas movie. 1 Quote
