I parked in a some lot that was basically a burned out old warehouse. Thought I would die, but that was where everyone was Parking. We all basically sprinted from our cars to the concert hall. That said, went to Detroit in 2018, and the downtown was much improved. Not sure what it looks like now though post-Covid. Call me crazy, but I bet there are at least a few hip night-spot areas that are more than safe to visit. The city is still pretty big--I suspect people can go out and have fun without fear of losing their lives. Folks watch too much news and have a skewed perspective on reality. This is why most of this country thinks the snow Buffalo is getting right now happens every day of the year. 3 4 1 1 Quote
Jerryg1983 Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 Nemo’s bar is great. Stiff drinks. They also provide a shuttle to and from Ford field. Quote

shane nelson Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 I did a trifecta weekend there pre pandemic ((Wings, UofM and Lions game). They have really cleaned up the downtown area. Greektown is fun and there are plenty of bars. Try the Old Shillelagh upstairs. Been there many times and never had an issue. Just be smart. 1 Quote

I remember drinking in the Nemo’s overflow (aka the parking lot) after Kenny Rogers beat the crap out of the Yankees in the 2006 playoffs. The city was jumping that night. My brother and I walked (stumbled/staggered) back from Nemo’s to our downtown hotel at 2am…not sure how we made it. That said…I second @shane nelsonwith Greektown and Shillelagh’s. Fishbones is a great spot to eat as well…Cajun and sushi makes a surprisingly amazing combo. Quote

reelpositive Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 First of all, downtown D is pretty safe these days, especially when there is an event going on. There are lots of bars and restaurants scattered all around from the Greektown Casino, The Old Shillelagh is a great local bar, The Detroiter Bar is a classic dive bar (just like the ones in Blo), The Roof Detroit is just across the from Comerica Park, Detroit Beer Company is a brewery on Broadway....lots of choices. Corktown just a mile west of the downtown on Michigan Avenue (too far to walk, Uber there) also has many bars and restaurants, like Nemos (a great Detroit tradition, dating back to when the Tigers played at Tiger Stadium), Slows BBQ, Lager House, etc. Walking around going from place to place is no problem, no worries there. I was just at the Sabres/Bruins game and frankly, the D has many, many more options for downtown restaurants and drinking than Blo. Tailgating is not like at the Bills games. There is tailgating, just different cause the parking is in small downtown lots. So space is VERY limited in the lots, so you don't see a lot of huge tents set up because the parking lot owners want paying cars instead of tents. And it will be expensive to park close to Ford Fiels, like $40 -50 or so. A lot of tailgaters just open up the back and stand around. Lastly, the old thing about alcohol not being allowed was gone years ago. Everyone parties just like anywhere else. Good luck, have fun in the D, I'll be there and Go Bills!! 2 2 Quote
Son of a K-Gun Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 Was just about to ask about tailgating @reelpositiveso thanks for chiming in! I always park in the Greektown surface lots for Tigers games and pay $20 or so…are Lions games comparable or do they Jack the prices up? 1 Quote
reelpositive Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 I think its jacked up for Lions, but not sure cause we have parking pass for Lions. But I think at least $30 if not more. 1 Quote

I have never been so just interesting to hear the different perspectives. So true, I lived in WNY most of my life and had Bills season tickets for 30+ years before moving here to metro Detroit a few years back. The locals here are worried they are about to be overun by the Buffalo version of the Beverly Hillbillies coming to the big city for the first time. Downtown Detroit has really improved. I feel safer going to Ford Field than I did going to a Sabres game at the Aud. Besides, it has been quiet here lately. Only 3 murders last night! 1 Quote

Download the Parkwiz parking app or the Best Parking app and pre-book. There are cheaper lots available, but a bit of a walk. Quote

A “bit of a walk” at Ford Field is like parking in the back of Lot 7 at Highmark…not too bad. Quote
