jethro_tull Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 (edited) The offense has been more matter of fact, less dynamic at times and when things are working we still win. Yesterday and during the tougher games (Loss to Miami) the offense seems to be pressing and inflexible and lacks creativity. Of course QB play enters into the mix but it does seem like the offense has lost some creative spark, adaptability and adjustment flexibility. McDermott was even quoted after the game “I’ll look at the tape but I think we got a little too one-dimensional at times against a good defensive front.” I have to think this is a consequence of the departure of Brian Daboll. Not saying that Ken Dorsey won't recover and adapt, especially since McDermott saw the same thing. At the moment it is something the team needs to work on. It will be interesting to see what happens but this is a definite road block. Edited November 7, 2022 by jethro_tull 1 Quote
MasterStrategist Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 I think it's less about Daboll, because same thing happened with him running the show LY (and McDermott also made similar comments). Alot of this comes down to Josh and offense executing. Josh had a lot of open underneath/checkdown options yesterday, coupled with 2 critical turnovers. Especially the turnovers NEED to stop. Even with a bad offensive outing, if we don't turnover both times this is likely a close win. Dorsey/Josh will get it figured out. I really think we need to get the targets spread around, get more Knox/slot Wr/Rb targets in pass game. Get these quick hitters, let our playmakers get into a groove.. feel like Josh has just been inconsistent with some of his processing/progressions. Need to execute better, the plays are there to be had. Quote
ddaryl Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 (edited) We continually fail to draft or find solid OL to fill out the trenches. We do not seem to be able to develop a consistent run game and that is a continued issue with the OL and the lack of better RBs. This has been and contiues to be Beane's weakness. The inability to find real difference makers at these positions (OL and RB). Singletary is serviceable and average on his best days, everyone else on the roster in a JAG at the RB position. Cook has shown nothing, Hines, I do not expect to be able to run consistently. If Hines can get involved in the passing game and become a major reliable outlet that would be the best outcome for the 2nd half of the season. Edited November 7, 2022 by ddaryl Quote
