ChiGoose Posted November 5, 2022 Posted November 5, 2022 In the interest of some non-partisan conversation, I thought I’d ask this question about whether or not we should elect judges. This stems from that fact that, here in Illinois, judges are elected. We also do retention votes to determine if judges should remain on the bench. More than half of my ballot for Tuesday is judges and while it’s been a long time since I’ve voted in NY, I believe judges are elected there too. Proponents would argue that this is real democracy, with voters determining who oversees the judicial system in their area. Opponents would argue that it’s unreasonable to expect the average person to understand who would make a good judge. What say you?
