Italian Bills Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 As we all know we are one of the teams that blitz less. Don’t you think that vs the Jets we could change this and go for Wilson much more ? Could it be a good strategy ? Actually we are 7th in number of sacks (19) tied with the Chiefs and Commanders, Cowboys first with 29. Quote
MJS Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 The Bills already have one of the best pressure rates in the league, so there is no need to blitz. Getting pressure without blitzing is the gold standard for defenses. 9 8 Quote
BuffaloBillyG Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 They will likely get a lot of pressure with 4, leaving 7 guys dropping back to fight for Wilson's likely INTs. There will be a few time that I think they throw a 5th guy into the pass rush to take Wilson by surprise an possibly force a mistake. Feels like a game we could see Taron blitz from his spot around the edge or Hamlin one or twice up the middle. 2 Quote

loveorhatembillsfan4life Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 I think we have one of the highest pressure percentages without Blitzing so it’s working. But it also never hurts to bring it once and a while at timely opportunities. 3 1 Quote
LeGOATski Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 This was brought up in the Locked On Bills podcast and I think they said Zach Wilson is one of the worst against the blitz. Idk if that changes their strategy, but at least they know they won't get killed if they blitz (as opposed to someone like Mahomes or Rodgers.) Quote
HOUSE Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 The Jets are an NFL POWERHOUSE and Zackary Wilson will read the blitz and make Buffalo pay. Bills 22 Jets 21 7 Quote
Brianmoorman4jesus Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 I think if you went off schedule and blitzed the Jets 80% of the downs this week, you might hold them to under 20yards 1 1 1 Quote
wjag Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 I don't think they will. For all the pillorying of Zach Wilson this week, he can and will throw the ball around. Buffalo has been pretty good rushing 4 and dropping 7 into coverage. The knock on Wilson is he is a one-read pony. So if you can take away the Conklin and Wilson targets he gets erratic. My guess is the Packers, Broncos and Patriots all blitzed him. The JETS gave up seven sacks total in those 3 games. That's three good defenses in a row. With the exception of last weekend (and I know they don't have Hall now), he seems to have held up. Robinson has had a second week to learn the offense and Carter is back there as well. Should be interesting to see if the Jets believe they can do what the Packers did with a run heavy offense. 1 Quote
Rc2catch Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 No need to fix something that’s not broken. One of the reasons Dane and Benford and Elam have been so successful is they have not been left in 1 on 1 matchups down the field. If you wanna blitz more you’re probably exposing them to more penalties and big plays given up. 1 1 Quote
GunnerBill Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 I think they will blitz Wilson more than they blitzed Rodgers or Mahomes for example.... but I don't expect or even want them to go blitz heavy. 2 1 Quote
SoCal Deek Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 (edited) I’m not as quick to blow off the idea. The Bills have played against top tier QBs like Mahomes, Rodgers, Lamar, and Stafford this year. Zach Wilson has nowhere near the skill set or experience of any of those guys. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Bills defensive brain trust force him to do and see things he’s not expecting. Edited November 3, 2022 by SoCal Deek 1 Quote
Lost Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Just a personal opinion but I prefer the Bills D to be more aggressive and blitz often. It makes for more exciting games. Either we get in the backfield all day long and rack up the sacks and TFLs or we give up the big plays and the game turns into a shootout which we win anyway. 1 3 1 1 Quote
Brianmoorman4jesus Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 I think it plays a little easier with the 2 great Safety’s but now that we are banged up back there, you might want to get the ball out of the QBs hands faster 1 Quote
Greg S Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Bills will get pressure on Wilson with their front 4. With the safeties banged up its probably a good idea not to blitz as much. 2 2 Quote
Pags24 Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 I think they'll blitz more in this game for sure but nothing crazy. Leslie has always dialed up more blitz calls against lower rated QBs 1 Quote
