A little bit concerned by this.

Bills have been giving their RBs about 17 touches per game.  Motor gets 10 of them, Cook and Moss have been splitting the rest.

A platoon of McKenzie, Crowder, and Shakir in the slot have been seeing about 10 targets per game

Giving Nyheim 6 rushes and 6 targets in the air seems kind of ambitious here.  There's only one ball, and I'd like to see Cook and Shakir continue to see some playing time.  If he's upset that he's only been seeing 7-8 touches per game with the Colts, is he going to settle in OK with the Bills?

Perhaps the staff at OBD are looking to use Hines in both the McKenzie (slot WR) and backup RB role.  Imagine a formation with 2 WR, TE and 2 RBs where they move Hines in motion to the slot.  Likley results in a LB one on one with him.

Given PR duties and in a hybrid WR/RB role can definitely see him getting 12-15 touches a game

In the 202o playoff game at Highmark Hines had 6 carries for 75 yds and 1 reception for 8 yds.  In 2021 laugher over the Bills at Highmark he had 4 carries for 31 yards.  Basic math yields 11 touches for 114 yards or over 10 yards per touch.  I can see how these numbers caught Beane's attention.

Speed kills.  And absolute speed kills absolutely.

I think Crowder’s Bills tenure is over.

Beane is already talking about how Hines can play slot for a full game, if needed.  We have McKenzie and Shakir… and judging by Beane’s comments and the NFL landscape, unless someone blows OBJ away with an offer or he’s just unable to play, he’s coming here.

It’s crazy to me how such big decisions come about so quickly.

Im sure the loose parameters for a deal were given to Indy beforehand, but still … as of 2:30, an hour and a half before the deadline, we were of the belief none of these moves would happen … wild.

You have to think that Hines' agent made a last-second push to facilitate a trade. He really wanted out of there. The Colts are not creative offensively in ways that can use a guy like him. I'm not saying that he'll be great in Buffalo, but he stands a much better chance with Josh Allen and Ken Dorsey than he did with a power running team like the Colts.

We'll never know the exact timeline of events but I suspect Beane reach out on Monday to see if the Colts were selling offering the 6th for Hines and was rebuffed as being too low. It had been leaked there were a couple of teams looking into Nyheim's availability and then changed to he was getting moved by Tuesday Moring. I interpreted that as Nyheim figured out who was offering picks for him and decided he wanted out preferring going to Buffalo. I am sure the Colts tried for a better pick and Beane wouldn't do a 4th or something thus he thought the deal was dead with Hines going to a different team. Hines may have told the FO he wanted to go to Buffalo around 3PM and Beane made it a conditional 5th to show a bit of attrition and get a player that fits the offense/clubhouse perfectly.  I wouldn't be surprised if we hear the Colts did right by NH and took a lesser offer of conditional 5th/Moss over a better pick.

Bills fans over-value Singletary.  He’s solid but isn’t dynamic and plays way too many snaps because we haven’t had anybody else.  The RB version of Levi Wallace.  Hynes will eat into his snaps.

That could happen.

Singletary sees an average of 14 "touches" (carries + targets) a game, and 47 snaps a game.  That means on a lot of the remaining 33 snaps he's pass protecting in the backfield or at least chipping.  Hines is going to need to come up to speed on our protections and the RB's role to the point where Josh really trusts him to make much of a dent, because Josh has made it clear that he loves him some Motor

Bottom line is the Bills had to get faster at the RB position for more explosive plays. Hines fits the bill nicely.

Singletary is too slow and can't run outside.

It's no coincidence that the first TD scored scored from the RB group was from Cook who hardly ever plays 5 games into the season.

Yes, I was too lazy to look into the Crowder thread. Thank you on the update.

Hines could have spent the rest of the year with a failing Colts team. He now has the opporunity to contribute to a possible SB winner. At minimum, he will increase his future earnings by not sulking and fitting in as best as he can. Of course, if he's poor character and dim, he may sulk. Hopefully that's not the case.

I really don’t think we’re going to see a sulking player he can be released with no cap it it’s off-season which means he’s going to need to play to get his dollars up

As an fyi, nfl.com gave Beane a B+ and Indy a C on this trade.

Appeared to be the biggest report card ‘spread’ of any of the trades.

Beane, doing the Beane.

Wonder what they gave the Hughes-Sheppard trade...could be a similar result.  Moss was given a lot of opportunities to take carries from Singletary and he ended up giving him extra instead of taking them

For those that think Hines has anything to do with Cook, it doesn't. Cook is just getting started after his slow start. It's clear ON THE FIELD that the coaches are trusting him more and more (he was in on a whole 4th quarter drive with the lead shrinking away due to those foolish couple throws by Josh). And Cook is showing good signs now of his value in our scheme.

Side note ... Ain't nothing do to with Singletary either. He's doing exactly what they need him to out there.

Almost feels like Beane smelled blood in the water at Indy after Ryan’s demotion, seemingly by Irsay.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Irsay is in ‘blow it up mode’ for more picks and that he’s the one who approved of Beane’s lowball offer.

I’m just glad we finally have legit speed options all over the offense.

Hines, Cook and McKenzie gives us a ton of speed options at RB/Slot while teams focus on Diggs and Davis outside, along with a fast TE in Knox.

Very excited about this trade!  Hines is so versatile, RB, WR, Punt Returner....he's going to be an asset to our squad.  I also know that he's the type of guy that I'll love rooting for.  Hard working, plays with his heart, 110% effort on every play type of player
