Yay, another extreme hot take.  You people realize Davis missed time and also played hurt right?  Commenting on his total catch numbers is unreasonable.  

 

Another extreme hot take over one game...really over one half...of a game we won by double digits and against one of the best pass defenses and secondary's in the league.

 

You people realize there is talent on the other teams we play too right?   You realize they get paid to make plays too right?  Not every player is going to dominate every second of every game.  

 

Is it Sunday yet cuz I don't how much more of these extreme hot takes I can take?

Gabe Davis is a great number 2 WR.

 

He's gonna get a big extension with us. He has great hands. Those deep passes are difficult to catch. You try to do what he does. We don't need another WR, dude. Hell, we might even get OBJ on the cheap.

 

"We need another WR bad" is not an issue. The issue to monitor is really boosting our defense with injuries to Poyer and Milano.

All anyone can do is nitpick and find any crack in the armor that could prevent us from winning a Super Bowl.  
 

Gabe Davis and Isaiah McKenzie have not been consistent enough to squash the view many of us held heading into the season, that we should get another reliable WR.  This isn’t some knee jerk reaction, many of us have always felt this way.

 

Can we win a SB as is.. absolutely.  However, we’re nitpicking .. and a very visible area to go is in the fact our WR2, WR3 and TE1 have all been inconsistent/injured to this point.  
 

Singletary has been Allen’s chain mover in the pass game more often than a slant/sit-down/quick-out to McKenzie or Davis. 
 

Against KC, McKenzie bungled a TD and dropped a pass backed up in our own end zone.   Last night Davis was invisible for most of the night and dropped a house call slant. 
 

Can they all get better and solve the problem internally, yes.   But this is, and has been, a potential crack in the armor.

On one hand Davis does seem to disappear at times, but on the other he has 1/4 of the big plays in the passing game on 1/8 of Josh's pass attempts.

Couldn’t disagree more. Davis wasn’t great last night but he’s a wr that needs to be game planned for opposite Diggs. Mck and Shakir are fine at slot. Zero need for a Prima Dona obj or any other wr. S and OL depth would be fine if a deal can be found. Otherwise the Bills are fine.

Yes, he has disappeared at times, but we need to look past that when he was playing on a bad ankle. I’m glad he did what he could, even if it was mostly as a decoy. It’s hard to play WR in the NFL with a bad wheel. The guy makes plays. And complaining about him is mostly nitpicking, indeed. Life isn’t perfect.

He’s averaging 2.6 catches a game in a pass happy offense and catching less the 50% of his targets. He’s the #2 guy in a pass happy offense. Must be Allen throwing him inaccurate passes all the time,  that’s haunted him since college.🙄

This is weird to say, but part of the problem is that he only makes big plays. He's either catching 25+ yards bombs for TDs, or nothing. I've said this before, I think he would be a perfect #3 WR in our offense. He gives DBs a lot of trouble when he's running straight at them and he finds an extra gear downfield. But I want someone that gives us a little bit of everything to be our #2 WR. It's hard being a full time outside WR without the ability to, for example, run slant routes consistently. And Davis is inexplicably weaker at the catch point the closer to the LOS he gets. There's nothing wrong with his skill set, he fulfills that vertical role very well. The problem is we're asking him to fulfill a bigger role than his skill set would imply. Just my two cents.

Fair points. I think his game has and will progress. Working with Diggs won’t hurt that at all.

This team wants run after the catch, so I expected the Hines type move and I expect the return of the jet sweep and more things to use Mckenzie in the open field again. I think those WR screens will start being a staple as well with many players since we have a bunch of guys that can block and run them. Why run risky slants that can be tipped when you can go outside into open space?

I'm sure if the time comes that Brandon Beane will do his due diligence on Beckham. If he's not ready to roll one other name I could kind of see the Bills looking at is T. Y. Hilton. Yes he's a tad older and has had recent injury issues as well...but he did average 14.4YPC for the Colts in 10 games last season.
