I know concussions are a brain injury, and it can happen to anyone. Having said that, having a big, strong, athletic QB makes it harder to whip them around like a rag doll. I fear for Tua’s long term health as he’s not fast enough to get away, nor is he big enough to put up much of a struggle. BOOM goes the head off the turf. So now the league will have us lay them down gently on a down pillow. It’s getting further away from what I remember as “football”.

Probably, in a perfect world Tua or Pickett would rest their bruised brains for the season. But it’s NFL football, and guys have been playing with concussions or slightly removed from a concussion for 80 years or whatever. So if they feel well enough to play and doctors clear them, i’m fine with it. 

Just hope they do everything they can do to protect themselves.

It's a tough call. Playing hockey, I got a concussion when my helmet fell off and my head smashed on the ice in the first period. I was out cold and came too in the locker room. Sat the second period, played the third. Played every game after.  Playing football in the back yard, our heads smashed through wooden fences every week. I got tagged helmet to helmet going over the middle to make a catch in college and was down a few seconds.  Missed the rest of the half, came back and played in the second half.  I'm still doing fine many years later. 

Maybe players today are bigger and stronger and faster, but you think helmet technology would help alleviate these issues. Seems a concussion in the 80's and 90's when I played was not a big deal and no one got them simply falling to the ground and banging your head off the turf. We did that 10 times a game in my day, and in the playground without wearing helmets.

Today, it seems to be so much more serious. What happened to people's heads that they can't take a good hit now a days.  Something changed and it's not for the better.

A lot of Miami fans on their forum are convinced there's an NFL conspiracy against them that is against Miami being good by playing Tua. Their fans must be living in an alternate reality, lol.

That would beg the question when is the right time for Tua to come back? I'm asking that as an honest question.

 

He'll have been out for 24 days by the time he plays this Sunday. That's a long time compared to players with just one concussion. But we have much less history about the timeline for players who have had multiple concussions within a week.

Yep. He was thrown around like a rag doll on that sack against the Bengals that knocked him out. He's too small and he also doesn't protect himself at all when going down. When Brady was sacked on the BS roughing call against the Falcons it was the same type of tackle but you'll notice Brady's head never hits the ground. Brady knows to keep his head up when being taken to the ground.

In Tua's case too, personally, he just came off one of his greatest games ever, and one of the greatest ever for a QB in NFL history even. And he did this playing with the new addition in Tyreek Hill. He's probably thinking he can become a legit top 5 QB now. We as observers still see that as highly unlikely still but I can't blame the player for thinking he can reach that level of play consistently.

The heads and what's in them are the same. It's the moving object that carries them that has changed. Players are faster and bigger that equals more force when the head hits the ground or is hit by another player. But the brain and skulls are not any bigger or anymore protected. They are just connected to larger and faster bodies. 

 

For an extreme example you sometimes hear about the Packers offensive line on their first super bowl team, not a single lineman was over 260lbs. Now the Packers probably have 16 players on the roster over 300 lbs.

Miami is all-in on Tua, but they’re playing a dangerous game with his future (fixed it for you). I’m concerned that one day we might see another player die on the field due to stupid decisions like this one on Miami’s part. Chuck Hughes died in 1971 on the field during a game. I’d prefer not to see that happen again

I thought the Poyer situation was strange too. I understand the air pressure changes and how that can be a risk to his condition, but wouldn't another player slamming into his chest be a similar risk.

 

Tua is made of glass, not a quality you want in your "franchise" QB

I am fine with Pickett playing.  IMO opinion Tua should sit out a considerable amount of time.  Another 4 weeks or more.

 

I think Tua sitting out more games provides two sides to the story which is positive optics that he is being taken care of Tua and negative optics to continue the narrative the Dolphins did nothing wrong.  Fix the wrong and sit him for many weeks is my opinion.

 

Geepers, I think Tua should sit out the season for his best life.  Seriously, his hand gestures after the last hit are scary and show his brain has sustained some damage, possibly irreversible.  I have been concussed many times before, but, nothing like that where the brain is so messed up.

It doesn’t matter how long he sits. The instant he gets another concussion, could be Sunday or could be 2 years from now, that narrative is gonna resurface. 
 

He just has the concussion stink on him, probably forever at this point. My hope is he learns to protect himself better and learn when to give up on plays. He gets injured because he wants to make a play too badly every snap. Sometimes the best outcome is to throw it away or just take the sack.

I dont know about Pickett but Tua has been out for 3 weeks already and has been seen by multiple doctors.  He should be fine.  If Pitts had TJ Watt though it would not suprise me if Tua was knocked out with some kind of injury again.  He just isnt built for the NFL.

 

If he does happen to get another concussion anytime soon the dude just flat out needs to retire.

A concussion is the brain slamming into your skull.  There is no technology that can stop that momentum.

Yeah its pretty delusional thinking its just some big conspiracy against Tua or Miami.  Miami did get hosed when Bridgewater got pulled out that first game though.
