Prior to this year, KC had Charvarious Ward and a mix of Sneed, Fenton, Breeland...guys who were pretty good at man coverage. Conversely, they had way too often, Dan Sorenson, Nick Nieman, and Anthony Hitchens playing S, LB and LB respectively. Those 3 guys coudln't cover TE/RB at all. That's kind of flipped. Botlon at LB, and Gay are good at covering backs and TE. GAy was out this game, but Darrius Harris as the backup who's been playing, has been good at it too. The secondary is in the midst of a major overhaul. You guys got to see it today, Rookie Corners and Sneed. Guys we were missing - McDuffie, the 1st round corner....got hurt early but had played well. Missing Gay. Missing Cook at S (who doens't start but plays alot) I am not making any excuses...the outcome would likely have been the same with those guys all in...the rookie corners aren't awesome but they do what they are asked in Scags system and as I said...he doesn't care....if you are out there, Scags is going to ask you to man cover quite a bit. It's a big ask for rookie 7th and 4th rounders. If anyone is interested, I'll give my thoughts on the whole thing in a reply to my pre game analysis. Thanks for sharing from a Chiefs POV. Not living in the US, it's great to have analysis like this & kudos to you for posting even though your team didn't get up today. Edited October 17, 2022 by Conlan121312 1 Quote

The way to beat the Chiefs used to be with RB's and TE's. Now it might be with WR's. Although for what it's worth, Singletary had his best game of the season....85 yds on 17 carries plus another 22 yds receiving. Second game this season where the Bills leading rusher was not named Josh Allen Quote

But they've given up a lot of yards on the ground the last two games against Jacobs and Singletary. Quote

Eh, they gave up >100 yds to the Cardinals and As I pointed out elsewhere, the Chiefs D had an outlier game against Tampa Bay, which rushed 6 times for 3 yards or something like that. If you even plug in a totally "meh" ground game of 30 yds or something for that game, that puts the KC D down in the bottom of run defenses for YPG. They did well against the Chargers and the Colts. I haven't looked closely enough to see if they've had some injuries in the LB corps that would have accounted for that. Edited October 17, 2022 by Beck Water Quote
Sammy Watkins' Rib Posted October 17, 2022 Author Posted October 17, 2022 Against the Cardinals i would wonder how many of those yards were from Murray and how many came in the 4th quarter when the Chiefs were up big and pulled their starters. But nonetheless, they don't look good against the run as we were told. Quote

I thought of that and checked when I was digging into the KC run game last week. I dunno about the 4Q, but normally teams who are seriously behind step away from the rush game and take to the air.
