Sammy Watkins' Rib Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 House. LOL. Love it. One interesting thing I've notice so far through just 5 games is that Allen and Mahomes have both been sacked 8 times this year. Mahomes for 62 yards loss, Allen for only 39 yards loss. Remember when Allen used to take 20 yard sacks every other game? 1 Quote

I don't know what it is about his throws that makes it hard for defenders to catch it. He should have way more INT's. could say the same about Josh, except in Josh's case we know why - he throws it hard enough that his own WR find it a challenge to catch Quote

It's like his early success inoculated him, so, like Brady, he is out of bounds. Thou shalt not criticize the Holy One. “Give a man a reputation as an early riser and he can sleep 'til noon.” - Mark Twain Mahomes didn't start until his 2nd year. Once he did start, he earned a reputation for brilliant play, resulting in >5000 yds passing and 50 TD to only 14 INTs. 9 fumbles but they only lost 2 of 'em - it paled next to the other stuff. That reputation still insulates him and influences how he's seen. 1 Quote
Charles Romes Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 Mahomes can play bad. The problem is that Josh brings the best out him and elevates his performance. Mahomes has been essentially flawless against us in the playoffs. Quote

Mahomes has been essentially flawless against us in the playoffs. Then he choked against the Bengals. That illustrates my point that he's insulated from criticism. He was awful in that last quarter when it counted, just like he was awful through three quarters of one of his Super Bowl appearances. Yet that awfulness does not form any part of the Mahomes narrative. Meanwhile, we're still hearing about Allen's "inaccuracy" and the "Bad Josh" who plays out of control. Again, I realize this is homer talking. Quote

Because the good is very very good and the bad is far enough between that you can overcome it That said he has moments where he is absolutely atrocious with ball security. It’s one of the reasons I think the Bills dominate on Sunday Quote

I think a big chunk people just love to think the Bills are picked on, it is not true with Allen anymore. There were a lot of detractors for the first few seasons of Allen's career. The career stats favor Mahomes by a lot, last three years its closer but how do you break the tie? Head to head in playoffs? Super bowls? Just win the Super Bowl! That is all that is left to do. I would tend to agree with this. Now I'd like to see him get the benefit when it comes to Roughing the Passer. Refs still don't call it as often as they should on Josh because of his size, physicality and willingness to take on tacklers. Although he's seen more flags in his favor over the last 2 years I still see late hits during slides, facemasks and tackles below the knees. Quote

I don’t like a lot of the rouging the passer penalties personally. He got one back the ravens that was weak. And when he is a runner he is a runner and subjected to rules of tackling running backs. Low tackles when running is not a penalty. I would like to see the slides you are talking about. Quote

Anyway, I'm sure Cian Fahey has a similar mashup video for Allen's mishaps somewhere. In terms of QB's, this stuff happens to everyone. So Mahomes drops it, Mahomes turfs it, Mahomes puts it into coverage. So does Allen, so does Brady, so does Rodgers. They're the best because they do it less often than others. Two things separate the top: consistency, and limitations. Brady has a limitation, he's 45 and runs like a paint can. Lamar can't attack outside the numbers and still seems like a half-field read guy. Rodgers hasn't been his normal consistency this year - and/or receivers haven't been helping him. Allen and Mahomes have been fairly consistent and have no limitations. Both can play the dink/dunk game or go over the top depending on what is available, or manufacture with the legs or make crazy off-schedule schoolyard plays. Any given week you can argue Allen over Mahomes or Mahomes over Allen but suffice to say they are their own tier of QB play right now. Edited October 15, 2022 by Ralonzo Quote

It’s a pointless observation. Sort of like counting games a team was 1 play away from winning and ignoring games they did win by a close margin that could’ve gone the other way. A compilation of Allen’s fumbles would be a tough watch as well. Both his strip sacks and some of his gaffes when running the ball carelessly. Quote
