Big Turk Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 (edited) ESPN only shows 31 players since Sam Martin doesn't have enough attempts to qualify 😂🤣 Bills might also be the only team in NFL history that has fans boo their team for punting while up 35 points in the 4th quarter with the backups in. It's just not acceptable to punt, ever, we don't care who is out there. Augie Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 I guess we will survive with a punt deity. 🤷♂️ 2 Quote
Inigo Montoya Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 Sam Martin was previously know as Sammy "The Hammer" Giordano. He turned State's evidence on the mob and was placed into the Federal Witness Protection Program. The U.S. Marshals thought being the Buffalo Bills punter was the best place to keep him out of sight. 1 17 1 1 Quote

eball Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 9 punts through 5 games extrapolates to 30.6 punts over a 17-game season. Now, we can't really expect this run to continue (can we?) but it's amazing. Where is @ScottLaw to berate my preseason suggestion the Bills might punt fewer than 50 times this year? 1 3 Quote

He's thinking about another way to disguise saying "we lack OL and WR depth. Our offensive FA signings are abysmal" The freaking 1982 San Diego Chargers only punted 23 times....wow! 1 1 Quote

No NFL team has ever finished a season averaging under 2 punts per game. The closest were the 1990 Oilers who averaged 2.13 punts per game, punting only 34 times in a 16 game season. Bills currently on pace to shatter that record at 1.8 punts per game. 2021 Chiefs were the next best team averaging 2.35 punts per game followed by the 1982 Chargers, 2020 Bills and 2019 Ravens all at 2.56. Surprisingly none of the great SB Bills teams made this list. Edited October 11, 2022 by Big Turk 1 Quote

17islongenough Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 Can they change Sam Martin's position to holder on the depth chart 1 Quote

Well...consider the fact that the Bills have only punted 5 times with the starters in and it becomes even MORE astounding. 4 of the punts have happened during the 4th quarter mop of duty by the backups. Twice in the Titan game and twice in the Steeler game. So literally the biggest threat to us breaking that record, even shattering that record, might be them being too good and having the backups play too much in he 4th quarter, leading to punts. 1 minute ago, eball said: Here’s the crazy thing…we’ve only punted 9 times because two of our games were blowouts before the 4th quarter and Keenum came in. Yes...4 of the punts have been with the backups in...2 each in the Titan and Steeler game thanks to Keenum and Company. 1 1 Quote
Virgil Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 I have to say, I've been very pleased with Martin as a holder and in his limited action as a Punter. I think everything worked out as it should have 4 1 Quote

The one against the Steelers was only blocked because it never even got above the lineman...that was a God Awful kick...the kind of kick that you have happen when you are transitioning from playing soccer to kicking footballs(ask me how I know) and don't understand where you have to kick the ball to get height, and one that you almost never see an NFL kicker make. It was against the wind. He knew he had to keep it in the lower bowl and outta the Jetstream going the opposite direction. Probably hit it too low. Edited October 11, 2022 by ExiledInIllinois Quote

Maybe...would have preferred to see him aim outside the upright and let it blow back in, but he has kicked there a lot more than I have so maybe that doesn't work well. Second mishit ball he has had in 5 games...that 38 yarder against Miami would have missed to the left even it wasn't partially blocked. Quote
