Big Turk Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 Honestly surprised he didn't just take off to his left and try and outrun everyone...tons of green that way and only one real player with a shot at him with a blocker out there for him tho. Quote

Even if he tries to bulldoze his way in I don't think they are letting him get in Probably not but worst case scenario he would be at the one or even half yard line. Maybe gives them much better odds on 4th and goal to punch it in on the ground from there. Or a hard play action up the middle boot leg. Quote

After watching some highlights of the goal line stand I kept going back to the 3rd and goal play. In a got to have it moment it is just an absolutely terrible run. What happens here? Does he get tripped up over his own feet? Or is he making a business decision. I know Lamar isn't 6'5" 240 but that's 6'0" 200lb Damar Hamlin that is in his way. Why doesn't Lamar try to power his way through? Worst case scenario he would probably get inside the one yard line or down to the half yard line. Also, watching some of Jalen Hurts runs, he's a guy that like Allen would try to bully his way into the end zone in a got to have it situation. Hurts is listed an inch shorter than Lamar and is therefore a little thicker but not much. And supposedly Lamar put on about 20 pounds of muscle this off-season. Just found this play fascinating. I can't tell if he gets tripped up over his own feet after trying to do a little shake or if he goes down intentionally on his own not just well short of the end zone but well short of the defender. Either way, ditch the shimmy and shake and just bull your way in there. You can go to the 9:50 mark of the video to see the 3rd down play. https://youtu.be/a_xvUuFHotQ?t=589 I said it elsewhere but great screen shot as there's a player wide open right in front of him. Mahomes certainly make the throw and probably Allen too. Quote

I just went and watched the video. That guy doesn't come that open until the safety (Poyer I think but I can't see the number) comes off of him to come up top play Lamar as a runner. By that point he wasn't looking downfield anymore. Mahomes might have flipped it to him, but that's not Lamar's game. And Lamar gave himself up to avoid the hit because he was gonna get drilled short of the goal line anyway. Quote

Teams are clearly making adjustments at halftime and Lamar's second half against the Dolphins and Bills were nothing like the first half. I think he had 36 yds and 2 picks in the second half against the Bills. Quote

Nextmanup Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 It's not that strange of a play. He decided to run, but the space he thought he saw quickly closed, and he made the decision "I am not going to get to the end zone" at which point he "went down" slightly awkwardly head first, rather than take the brunt of the tackle/hit. I don't see anything wrong with it, or weird about it. 1 Quote

That's the point, he no longer was looking downfield which is an issue. Quote

It's just the nature of next guy up. Also.. I low key love guys like Josh and Von pressuring the Ravens to give Lamar a $50M+ contract... just less money to spend elsewhere. 1 Quote

Poyer could come off the receiver because the book on Lamar is that once he tucks the ball and starts running forward, he becomes a running back. Against Mahomes, I think he would have stayed on the receiver and Hamiln would have had to defend the runner one on one. 1 Quote

Hell, it happened to Allen in Miami on 4th down, he seemed to lose his footing mid-throw. It happens. That Lamar play was a fluke, he scores there 99% of the time. Quote

I watched it a # of times and he went down (or was going to be tackled regardless. He missed seeing an open receiver right in front of him. This is a typical Lamar excuse. RoyBatty is alive Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 Its obvious, he didnt want to get killed going for a TD. MAYBE if it was 4th down he would have tried. If that was Allen he goes for it and score. Quote
